One Childhood - One Chance

Weekly Update 23.2.24

Term 4 already!

A cracking start to Term 4. Let's see what we've been up to in Year 3...

We have been most impressed by Year 3's effort in our class Speaker Competition Heats. We had 10+ children enter in each class. Our three winners from each class will perform their speech in front of Year 3 next week.

Reminders:

- Children can now wear their PE kit to school on a Monday and Tuesday - please see Miss Arthur's recent letter about uniform for more information.

- Red and Yellow class have swimming on a Monday.

- Tuesday is PE day.

- Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct school uniform.

- 7th March is world book day. Our theme this year is vocabulary and we are asking the children to come dressed as a word, please see Miss Scarr's letter for more information.

-8th March is our exciting trip to Kent Life. Children will need a packed lunch, water bottle, and a waterproof coat. Trainers can be worn on this occasion since the ground could be muddy.

Kindness cup:

Every week a child from each class will be awarded the kindness cup - a special trophy that sits on their desk for the whole week. A child is either chosen by their teacher or nominated by their peers for displaying kindness that week.

The winners for this week are:

3B – Saskia

3G - Christopher

3R - Noah

3Y - Maiya

English

In English this week, we have kicked off the term with a Non-Fiction focus and created a handbook for new recruits to the Roman Army.

Next week, we will begin reading our text of the term, 'Revolt Against The Romans' and writing a description of our main character's journey across to Britannia.

Maths

Our Maths learning this week has been focused on time. We have practised telling the time on analogue clocks to 5 and 1-minute intervals.

Next term we will continue our focus on time.

Thematic

In our thematic learning this week we have had a Personal Development focus. We have been exploring making healthy life choices, a healthy diet, first aid and making safe choices online.

Homework

- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.

- Children have now been given their log-in details for Times Table Rock Stars. They should be playing this at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.

- Children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.

Welcome (renaissance-go.com)

- Spelling shed homework has also been set for the children to complete by next Friday.

- Please see the homework menu attached for our thematic homework.
