Weekly Update 01.03.24

Exciting things that have happened this week in Year 3....

Another super week in Year 3! We were so impressed with the speaker competition class winners who performed their speeches in front of the whole of Year 3 this week! A huge well done to all involved. You have made us very proud, and you should be incredibly proud of yourselves!

Reminders:

- Children can now wear their PE kit to school on a Monday and Tuesday - please see Miss Arthur's recent letter about uniform for more information.

- Red and Yellow class have swimming on a Monday.

- Tuesday is PE day.

- Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct school uniform.

- 7th March is world book day. Our theme this year is vocabulary, and we are asking the children to come dressed as a word, please see Miss Scarr's letter for more information.

-8th March is our exciting trip to Kent Life. Children will need a packed lunch, water bottle, and a waterproof coat. Trainers can be worn on this occasion since the ground could be muddy.

Kindness cup:

Every week a child from each class will be awarded the kindness cup - a special trophy that sits on their desk for the whole week. A child is either chosen by their teacher or nominated by their peers for displaying kindness that week.

The winners for this week are:

3G - Charlie

3R - Isaac

3Y - Nojus

English

In English this week, we have started our new text ‘Revolt against the Romans’. We wrote a recount of Marcus’ journey from Rome to Britannia using descriptive vocabulary and prepositional phrases.

Next week, we will continue to read our text and write a character description of the Celts and savage Britanians from Marcus’ perspective.

Maths

Our Maths learning this week has been focused on time. We have practised telling the time on analogue and digital clocks. We also made a great link to Roman numerals and clocks.

Next week we will continue our focus on time.

Thematic

In our thematic learning this week we have started our new theme ‘Revolutionary Romans’. This topic links perfectly to our English text. This week we started off by using maps to locate Rome and learning some information in Geography about Italy, the place the Romans came from. We then learnt about the Roman army and how it was important to the success of the Roman Empire. The children took part in a legionary boot camp where they practised marching and battle formations, just like they would have in the Roman army. Finally, we finished the week by learning about what Britain was like before the Romans invaded and how they created new towns and roads, that we can still see today, when they arrived.

Next week we will continue to learn about the Roman invasion of Britain.

Homework

- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.

- Children have now been given their log-in details for Times Table Rock Stars. They should be playing this at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.

- Children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.

Welcome (renaissance-go.com)

- Spelling shed homework has also been set for the children to complete by next Friday.

- Please see the homework menu attached for our thematic homework.

Have a great weekend!
