Super Saturday 2017

Last Saturday saw the Annual Super Saturday Football tournament run at Upton Junior School, with 35 school teams from across Thanet battling it out for the seven trophies on offer.

Upton entered 6 teams this year including, for the first time in the competition’s history, an all-girls team. The first stage of the tournament was a group stage to sort out which teams would compete for which trophy.

Upton had teams in 4 of the trophies and were ready to compete. The all-girls team got off to a flyer not conceding in their first 3 games and securing two wins. Upton 1 were competing for the Super Saturday Champions Trophy after not conceding for the whole tournament and had also secured two wins and a draw leading into their final game.

Charlotte Scales pulled off one of the greatest free kicks seen on a football pitch at Upton to send the all-girls team into a 1 – 0 lead over Chilton. The final whistle went and the girls secured the trophy for Upton.

Upton 1 were going into their last game as Champions as no other team could match their points in the league. This did not detract from their performance and they finished the tournament unbeaten. On their run through the tournament they did not concede a goal at all and scored 15.

Well done to all Upton teams who participated in the tournament, it was fantastic to see so many children wearing the Upton colours with pride and representing the school as well as they did.

Thank you to Mr Walker for organising the event and to Mr Honour, Mr Coot, Mr Maclaurin, Ms Barratt and Mr Tift (senior) for their help running teams all morning.
