One Childhood - One Chance

5R - Deforestation activists of the future!

In our Walk on the Wild Side topic this week. 5R have been debating about deforestation.

In our geography lessons, we looked at both the reasons for and the reasons against deforestation. We learnt about the devastating consequences of severe land use change, including the risk of extinction of a number of animal species, but we also learnt that throughout the world there are many varied and often valid reasons for cutting down trees, such as population growth and to support growing economies. The debate we had in class became passionate and at times heated, with many children expressing their views in very persuasive way. However, as a class we concluded that the only way deforestation should be allowed to continue should be sustainably.
