Home Learning Task:

During PD day, we read the book ‘The Bad Seed’ which is about a bad seed who turns good. For your homework task, we would like you to write a diary as the ‘Bad Seed’. You can choose any part of the story and it can be when he is bad or when he is good. Think about which events he could be writing about and don’t forget to include those thoughts, feelings and emotions.

Here is a link to the online version of the book:

English:

We started our new English text this week – The Firework Maker’s Daughter. After reading the first chapter, we have met the main characters of Lila and Chulak, Lalchand and the talking elephant, Hamlet. For our first writing task – instructional writing, we planned using pastels to create artwork of a newly invented firework. Next week, we will complete our instructions and begin looking at persuasive writing.

Maths:

This week in maths, we completed our multiplication and division unit. We recapped some of learning from last term and completed an assessment to check our understanding.

Next week, we will begin our unit on fractions.

Thematic Curriculum:

Our afternoon lessons this week have focused around PSHE. We looked at online safety and how we need to keep our information private. We also looked at dangers around the house and learnt what to do if we are ever in an emergency situation.

We finished the week with an RE day looking at different aspects of the Hindu religion. We were excited to learn about the festivals of Holi, Navaratri and Diwali and looked at some beliefs around the afterlife. We finished the day by looking at some of the many deities that Hindus worship.

Next week, we will begin our new topic: China.
