This week at Upton we have been celebrating international woman’s day! Your homework task this week is to research a woman who has made an impact and influenced any field such as medicine, art, engineering or science.

They can present their research in any way and we would like the most eye-catching pieces to form a display in the hall. Attached is information with details about the task.

Please ensure children are completing their reading, mymaths, TTRS & Spelling Shed homework.

Reading:

Minimum 3x a week. Reading record must be signed by an adult. Can be completed on your own or with your parents.

Spelling Shed:

Once a week – Friday to Friday.

Tasks will be completed online, with new tasks set every week.

Tasks will always follow the spellings being taught in class that week.

 Times Tables Rock Stars:

Minimum 3x a week.

Can be completed on tablets, laptops or mobile phones though the app or the website.

My Maths:

Once a week – Friday to Friday.

Tasks will be completed online, with new tasks set every week.

This week in English:

We are really enjoying reading the twists, turns, and mysteries unravel in our year 6 text letters from the lighthouse. This week in English we have learnt all about evacuation and we are using all of our skills to write an informative newspaper report about evacuation during WW2.

Next week our focus will be on writing a setting description of the wonderful lighthouse. The children will be drawing the inside and outside of the lighthouse and gathering descriptive sentences to use in their writing.

Maths:

This week we have been focusing on area and volume of compound shapes. We have been finding the volume of shapes by counting cubes and are begging to use formulae to help us find the volume of 3D shapes. Next week we will be learning about ratio and proportion.

UBBC:

This week the children have had a fantastic time exploring our WW2 topic. They have been learning about light by conducting experiments and understanding how searchlights were used during the war. We visited Dreamland for the safety in action workshops which the children linked to their PSHE learning and toured the Ramsgate Tunnels which taught the children about their local history. Next week we will be exploring this further by researching how our local area was effected during WW2.
