Termly Home Learning Task

This year, we will be setting just one homework task to be completed across the term that links with our Thematic Curriculum. There will be a selection of homework tasks to choose from but you are also free to do something else related to the topic. It would be great to see models brought in or photographs in books for anything that has been physically made. Other work can be completed in the book or printed and stuck in. We look forward to seeing what you come up with and details of this term’s task are below:

Check out some of the pieces we have had so far…

In English this week we finished our book ‘There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom’. We loved the ending with the letter from Bradley to Carla and how he is now a changed boy. The majority of the year group would recommend the text to someone they know and showed a deep understanding of the themes it covered.

Our final piece of writing was a persuasive argument to discuss whether Carla should keep her job. We then debated this as a year group. The children were very split but with a win for the ‘Yes, Carla should keep her job.’ However, we agreed that she could benefit from some extra training.

Next week we will focus on a classic poem. The children will read it, understand it and write a poem based on it. We can’t wait to see what their creativity brings.

This week in maths we began our unit on line graphs and tables. We began by telling the story of graphs and then looked at how we could read and interpret them. We understood why it is important to look carefully at the title and the axes so that we could interpret the data successfully. We finished the week by filling in missing data on a line graph and in a table by comparing them.

Next week, the children will construct their own line graphs.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week our focus in Thematic has been about the future of North America. We looked at the human impacts on North America (positive and negative) and what these might mean for the continent in the future. The children then wrote speeches to explore these impacts, including deforestation, air pollution and conservation efforts.

Next week, our afternoons will be dedicated to exploring the religion of Judaism.
