Back at school, the hall was set up for an 'International Food Day Feast'.  Thank you parents for joining us! 

Well done for you hard work in the kitchen today Year 6!!

The week finished with Red Nose Day, where 6R made an excellent effort to come dressed in Red of something "funny for money". As part of the day, we had a cake sale, a dance-a-thon and a joke competition. So many children told so many hilarious jokes, some even aimed at Mr White, but the overall winner had to be Ollie for this cracker:

A: I was walking around an art gallery admiring all the paintings when I said, "Woah, what's this monstrosity? Modern art I guess?"

B: No Sir, that's a mirror you're looking into. 

In English we created a poem and a persuasive letter based on the Rainbow Fish.

In topic we created a fact file of Rainbow Fish.

In art we created our own Rainbow fish made out of clay and created a collage.

To top the week off we all dressed up in bright colours and some of us even came as the Rainbow Fish. 

We thoroughly enjoyed the week but most of all learnt the key morals from the story...

It's what's in the inside tht counts...

In English, we have been writing three alternative story openers for Kensuke’s Kingdom: an action opener, a dialogue opener and a descriptive opener. The writing was really varied and showed off many of our writing skills:

Figurative language from Elyse - 'A miserable mist danced it's way through the grey town.'

Emotive writing from Abbie - '"No Michael, we have to find new jobs as soon as possible," whispered Dad, fighting the urge to hug Michael tightly.'

Action from Taryn - 'I couldn't hold it in - I was going to burst. I launched myself down the stairs and across the creaky hallway.'

In our topic work, we have been learning about DNA, inheritance, and the process of evolution. We looked at how genetic traits are inherited from parents by designing our own new dog breed; taking genetic traits from two different parents to create a new breed. We had a lot of fun naming the new dog breeds: corgi + pug = porgi.

We also looked at the sad story of the peppered moth and how pollution and industrialisation, through survival of the fittest and best adapted, has lead to evolution. We then drew a comic strip to tell the story of the peppered moth.

Using this experience the children went on to write a conversation between the characters taking care to use a range of skills and techniques. Pieces of writing generated are fabulous!

• Art - looking at the senses and how you can complete artwork in different ways using your body. 

It was a great day! 

We took part in a number of different practical activities in the morning with our maths groups and solved a number of problems with parents and grandparents. After lunch, it was time for topic where we investigated the following question: does exercise affect your heart rate? To do this we undertook a number of different physical activities including running, walking and star jumps. We recorded our heart beats adn from this was able to plot a line graph and interpret the data. 

As it was beautifully sunny, we decided to do the painting outside. Check out the photos in the attachments below:
