Primary School PE and Sport Funding
Upton has always placed great significance on the positive value of an extensive and inclusive school sports programme. The school has been recognised at both local and national level for providing outstanding sports provision and opportunity for pupils. The allocation of this PE funding is an exciting opportunity to raise PE provision and quality to even higher levels for the benefit of our students.
When determining how this funding would be most beneficial, extensive reference was made to Ofsted’s recent physical education survey, 'Beyond 2012 – outstanding physical education for all' , which identified a number of common weaknesses and set out a series of recommendations for the improvement of PE in primary schools. In addition to this, the Ofsted briefing paper Inspecting Primary School PE and School Sport: New Funding was integral to the planning of this document, as was the Ofsted document ‘Going the Extra Mile’: Excellence in Competitive School Sport.
This year, the government has created a true legacy for sport in primary schools by substantially increasing the amount of funding each school receives. The school aims to utilise this funding to create a legacy of sport here at Upton to inspire our pupils and future generations.
