Within sport at Upton we believe that our school motto - 'One Childhood, One Chance' - means that we have the opportunity, right now, to develop a lifelong love of sport and physical activity in our pupils. A Legacy of Sport. We aim to do our utmost to succeed in this goal.
Upton are recognised nationally as a centre of sporting excellence. We are currently in the 1% of primary schools nationally who hold the Platinum School Games Award for five consecutive years of excellence. We also hold the Gold Kitemark from the Youth Sport Trust, are one of just 40 UK Beacon Schools for the GETSET Olympic movement and are the only school in the south of England to have been National Primary School of the Year for Sport. Locally we are the current Thanet PasSport 'Sustained Excellence' Award winners, recognising our achievements over the past 7 years.
Upton are proud to host a comprehensive 'Sport in the Community Programme' that benefits children across the 28 local primary schools. Our staff organise and run huge multi-school events at weekend that are exceptionally well attended by other schools. These events include 'Super-Saturday' football, the DW Girls Trophy, The Annual Rugby Festival, the Six Nations Rugby tournament, the Annual Rounders Festival, the Waterloo Trophy and the Upton Cross-Country.Hosting these competitions at Upton also allows us the opportunity to enter a huge number of our own pupils in each event.
Upton are proud of our reputation as a school that values sports participation, opportunity and excellence. We have our own 'STEP into Upton Sport' values - Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Enjoyment and Participation - that we promote constantly throughout the school and that are the bedrock of our ethos for PE and Sport.
With a swimming pool onsite and excellent facilities our pupils are able to experience a wide range of sporting opportunities. We aim to keep pupil options diverse so that there truly is something for everyone. Be it though our Go-Kart Club, Archery, Life-Saving or through more traditional sports, we hope to encourage children to get involved outside of school hours
There are currently 16 different after-school sports clubs running every week at Upton, each available for our pupils to attend, and a huge competitive sports network providing both intra- and inter-school competition regularly.
Upton are widely regarded as the premier school for sport within the District. We work exceptionally hard to provide competitive opportunities for our pupils, often travelling long distances outside of school hours to ensure the highest level of competition. Last year the school participated in 52 competitive sports events in order to create opportunity for our pupils, becoming District champions in numerous different sports. Each year Upton wins the right to represent the District – very successfully - in a number of County and National Finals.
