The time has come to consider the next phase of your child’s educational journey. Time has gone by in a flash! It can’t seem that long ago that you were choosing your Infant school and here you are already, having to think about Year 3 and which Junior school will meet your needs. If you missed our recent open day and would like a tour of the school, please contact our friendly office team who can arrange an appointment with you with our Head of School, Miss Arthur.
At Upton, we hope we support you every step of the way in making the right decision. We appreciate that whilst the move to Upton is a hugely exciting prospect, it can also cause worry (and not just for the parents!)
HAPPY SAFE SUCCESSFUL
It is our pledge to you that the children at Upton will happy, safe and successful. Everything we do has these three factors in mind. Our children need to feel happy and safe from the very beginning of their time with us and that isn’t in the September when they start but during the extremely important transition process.
Our Transition Programme aims to prepare the children and parents for the move to ‘Big School’. We have developed effective communication lines with our feeder schools and evaluate them annually to ensure every child’s needs are met.
Our staff visit all the children in their year 2 classes to enable us to build on their learning journeys. Extensive consultation with the infant schools enables us to make the transition into Upton as successful as possible.
Successful transition is all about effective communication and partnership with parents and the local schools. We work together for the benefit of our community so that every child does matter. The following events enable us to support the children and families in enjoying a successful transition:
Visits to feeder schools – with lots of stickers!!!!
Children completing ‘Friends Wish List’ form
Regular liaison with your child’s current teachers, SENCo, learning mentors and FLOs
Two ‘Transition Days’ to meet the teacher and class mates: including a picnic, a swim in our pool and treasure hunt around the school site.
Class lists for parents
New Parents Information Evening – to go through routines, visit classrooms, meet the Year 3 staff
Regular letters building up to when your child starts
Meetings with parents, if requested in the summer term
Meet The Teacher Evening – within the first two week of the Autumn term
