Thursday 19th March

  • Festival of Song - Our children will no longer take part in the Festival of Song.

Thursday 12th March

  • Year 3 - Dear Parents and Carers, Due to the cancellation of Monday's trip, the children will now enjoy an Egyptian themed day in school instead.  Children can still come wearing their Egyptian costumes on Monday 16th March and we look forward to seeing everyone dressed up! Kind regards, Upton

Wednesday 11th March

  • Year 6 - A reminder that it is Year 6 WOW Day tomorrow (12th March). Children can dress up as something to do with the human body ie Doctor, nurse, cell. Don't forget if your child has allergies (particularly strawberry or banana) or eczema on the hands please make your child's teacher aware.

  • Year 5 - Dear Parents and Carers, Year 5 are going on a beach trip on Thursday to generate vocabulary for poetry writing, this is covered under the local trip consent you have provided. We will leave at 9 am and return in time for lunch. A change of shoes such as trainers would be advisable (school shoes are required to change back into) and please ensure your child has a warm coat. If your child requires an inhaler please ensure they bring it to school. Kind regards, Upton

Monday 9th March

  • Year 6 - SATs Awareness Meeting tonight at 5:30 pm where you will also be able to watch a pre-screening of the Puberty DVD. Also, Year 6 WOW Day is on 12th March - Dress up as something to do with the human body ie Doctor. We would like to ask parents for £5 to cover the cost of the topic including visitors from Fizz POP, CPR training, T-shirts to draw the circulatory system on. This can be paid via www.eduspot.co.uk.

  • 5Y - A reminder that 5Y's assembly is on Tuesday 10th March at 9 am, parents are invited along to watch.

  • Whole School - Dear Parents and Carers, Due to the volume of ticket enquires we have had the PTFA have kindly offered to sell tickets again today at 3 pm.  This will be the very last opportunity to purchase a Disco ticket for your child if you haven't done so already. Kind regards, Upton

Monday 2nd March

  • Whole School - Gold Letter Learning questions for Term 4 (optional home learning project)

  • 4B & 4G - Dear Parents and Carers, A reminder that 4B & 4G will visit Canterbury Roman Museum tomorrow (Tues 3rd March).  Children need to arrive at 8:30 am prompt in normal school uniform, they will need to bring a packed lunch and enough drink for the day.  Children can also bring a maximum of £5 spending money.   • Year 4 - Just a reminder that the Year 4 Creed Residential Trip meeting will take place on Tues 3rd March at 6pm. Parents are invited along to learn more about the trip. Click here for letter.

  • Whole School - Just a reminder World Book Day is on Thurs 5th March, children can come to school wearing their favourite colours. As part of World Book Week on Friday 6th March parents are invited at 2:30 pm to come along and read with their child.

  • Year 6 -  Dear Parents/Carers, There will be a SATS awareness evening and an opportunity to see the puberty DVD before the children on the 9th March at 5.30 pm. Regards Year 6 Team

  • Whole School - Don't let your child miss out on one for the biggest Team Upton Events of the year!  Time is running out to return your slip and payment to the School Office in order for your child to take part in the Quex Cross Country on Sat 7th March.  Don't forget first-time runners get a free Team Upton t-shirt! All runners receive a medal and join in the celebration during assembly, regardless of the position the race is a great chance for children to have a fantastic feeling of accomplishment when they finish! Return slips and payment no later than 4pm on Friday 28th Feb to ensure your child can take part.

  • Whole School - Dear Parents and Carers, To celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 5th March children can come to school dressed in their favourite colour/colours.  Parents are invited along on Friday 6th March at 2:30 pm to read with your child and view the work produced during Book Week.   • Year 4- Just a reminder Year 4 WOW Day will be on Monday 2nd March. Children are invited to dress as a Roman for the day. If they wish (they could even re-use some of the Ancient Greek outfit from Term 1).

Tuesday 25th February

  • Whole School - Coronavirus: This morning (25th February 2020) the Government and NHS 111 have updated their advice for travellers who have visited regions of Italy since the 19th February 2020.  Their advice is that if you have visited the followings affected areas and you do not have any symptoms you are required to self-isolate for a period of 14 days.
    This includes the following regions:
    Lombardy Region inc Codogno, Castiglione d’Adda, Casalpusterlengo, Fombio, Maleo, Somaglia, Bertonica, Terranova dei Passerini, Castelgerundo, San Fiorano
    We are asking parents who have visited these affected areas to contact the school for further advice. For further information regarding the Coronavirus please visit: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/italy/health#/italy We would also like to take this time to reassure you that there is no cause for alarm, these are precautionary measures.
  • Whole School- Just a reminder if you haven’t done so all ready to sign up for the Cross Country, closing date for entry is 28th Feb please return slips along with cash payment to the school office.  The race takes place on Sat 7th March, further paper copies are available from the school office.  It’s the biggest Team Upton event of the year so get your child involved!

  • Year 4 - Dear Parents and Carers, Please download the Year 4 Canterbury Roman Museum Trip letter.  Children will bring paper copies of this letter home today, further copies are available form the School Office. Download the letter here.

  • Whole School - A reminder that it is the Upton University Book Look, parents and carers are invited along from 2:30pm to see their children's work.

Wednesday 12th February

  • Year 3 - Dear Parents and Carers, Just a reminder that it is Year 3's Fabulous Finish tomorrow (Thursday 13th Feb), parents and carers are invited along at 2:30 pm to see what the children have learned during their Topic this term. Kind regards, Upton 

  • Whole School- Dear Parents/Carers, There are still three spaces in Expressive Dance Club if your child is interested. The club takes place on Fridays after school until 4:15 pm at a fee of £36 for 6 classes. If your child is interested for Term 4 there are letters in the office to complete and hand back to the school office.

Tuesday 11th February

  • Year 6 - Dear Parents and Carers, A few reminders for the upcoming Year 6 events this week, on Wednesday 12th Feb parents are invited to the Fabulous Finish at 2:15 pm.  
    On Thursday 13th Feb they will visit the Powell-Cotton Museum at Quex, children will need to wear full school uniform (can wear trainers) they will also need to wrap warm with a coat, hat and gloves, bring a packed lunch and no more than £5 spending money.  Children will need to arrive at normal time (8:40am) and we expect them to return by the end of the school day (passes can be used as normal).
    If you haven't returned the permission slip already this must be done by the end of today. 

  • Whole School - Dear Parents and Carers, We are in the final week of Term 3, on Friday 14th February parents are invited to the Upton University Book Look from 2:30 pm, school will finish at 3:15 pm.  Upton run clubs will be on as normal including Upton Ship Afterschool Club.   Monday 24th February is an Inset Day (the school will be closed to all pupils) and we look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 25th February, Breakfast Club starts at 7:45 am.   • The Year 4 teachers would like to say a special thank you to those parents who were able to join us for our DT day on Wednesday. Both the children and the teachers were incredibly thankful for your help and support and we hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did! If you were not able to join us this Wednesday, don't forget that it is our Fabulous Finish on Wednesday 12th Feb at 2 pm, parents are invited in to see the whole year groups' light bulb models in the hall. We hope to see you then!

  • Whole School  - Dear Parents / Carers, There is still time to get the nasal flu vaccination. Even though it's best to get vaccinated as soon as the flu vaccine is available, getting the vaccine later still can help protect against the flu virus. There are still a few months left in the flu season, so it's still a good idea to get vaccinated. If your child is eligible for ‘free school meals’ and you register them for this, we’ll receive extra funding called ‘Pupil Premium’. We use this extra money to improve the educational provision and resources at the school. Pupil premium funding from the government is given to schools to help pupils reach their full potential, regardless of their background or financial situation. It’s provided for pupils who: • Are registered for free school meals • Have been registered for free school meals at any point in the past 6 years • Are, or have been, in care • Have parents in the armed forces For every child awarded Pupil Premium, Upton Junior School receives £1,320 each year. For every child awarded the Armed forces Pupil Premium element, Upton will receive £300.
