In Maths, we have been focused on mastering the short method of division! The children have been using place value counters and pictorial representations to help them master this! Towards the end of the week, the children used the four operations to solve an investigation. Much fun was had with this task and it was a fantastic opportunity to apply what they learnt in a real-life situation. Next week, we are starting our new topic on fractions. 

In English, we started the week by drawing the skeleton woman from our story and then using this as a stimulus to write a character description. For the second half of the week, the children focused on the area of Mount St Helens before and after the eruption, and wrote a comparative setting description. Next week, the children are writing a newspaper report on a famous volcanic eruption!

In the afternoon, we kick-started our topic with three lessons on the structure of the Earth and how this causes earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The children made the layers of the Earth with plasticine and then cut it to reveal the cross-section! They have also created a fabulous double-page spread on volcanoes and how they are formed! 

Homework

Please see the homework menu attached. The children need to choose ONE activity each week that they would like to have a go at. There are 15 activities to choose from to provide a wide range of options. When they have completed a piece of homework, they can send it in either in the book, through photos or bringing something to share.
