One Childhood - One Chance

3.5.24 Year 4 Weekly News

A fun-filled week in year 4!

In Maths this week,  the children have started their new topic of solving problems with money and measure. They have been discovering the most appropriate unit of measure for various items and then learning the skills to convert this into different units by multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. Next week, the children will continue to convert units of measure and begin to apply this to everyday problems.

In English this week, the children planned a description through art and then wrote a description of the fishing village. The focus was to use ambitious vocabulary throughout the description. Next week, the children will be writing recounts, through letters. The skills they will be focusing on are subordinate clauses and using a range of sentence openers.

This week in thematic, the children researched and presented information about the rivers in the UK. They then used atlases to locate rivers around the world and wrote an information text about why people choose to live near rivers. Next week, the children will be comparing rainfall in the UK and Kenya and discuss how temperature is a factor in this. This will lead into how water is used in both countries, focusing on availability and similarities and differences.
