One Childhood - One Chance

Upton Values

At Upton, our school values shape the way we learn and play together. They are fundamental to our school culture and ethos and underpin behaviours and attitudes for everyone at our school.

"A value is a way of being or believing that which we hold most important. Living into our values means that we do more than profess our values, we practise them. We walk our talk - we are clear about what we believe and hold important and we take care that our intentions, words, thoughts and behaviours align with those beliefs" - Brene Brown.

Our values are: Respect, Resilience, Aspiration and Friendship

We actively teach our children about these values, their meanings and how we show the behaviours associated with the values.

Children understand the values in these terms:

  • Respect - I always treat people with respect and tolerance

  • Resilience - I never give up even when things are difficult

  • Aspiration - I always challenge myself to achieve as much as possible

  • Friendship - I am always kind and friendly towards everyone

Our PSHE curriculum alongside our values teaching and learning also allows children to explore Upton values to develop their emotional literacy: To understand and respect their own feelings and the feelings of others. Children also learn about strategies to become more emotionally resilient and how to build healthy relationships with those around them.

Alongside Upton's Values, our school rules of Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe ensure that at Upton, there is a common understanding of how everyone should be treated and behave.

British Values are also taught discreetly at Upton and through links across the curriculum.

British Values are:

The Rule of Law

Democracy

Tolerance of those of different faiths

Mutual Respect

Individual Liberty
