Term 6: My Home, Your Home

This term in Year 4 we are learning about Broadstairs. We will be learning about the history of the town and what makes it a great place to live and visit. We will also be looking at the classification of animals and how the environment can change and pose dangers. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term.

English:

This week in English we drew/ painted a picture of a pomegranate. We used real fruit to help us get the shading correct and to give us ideas for vocabulary. We tried the seeds so that we could describe the taste. Our focus was to use vivid vocabulary in our writing.

Next week we will be writing dialogue and planning our narrative.

Maths:

In maths this week, we commenced our short unit on position and direction. We began the week by reading and writing coordinates on a grid. Next, we used coordinates to draw different polygons and named the shapes we made. Finally, we started to describe translations of points from one location to another.

Next week we will conclude our position and direction unit and begin looking at sequences and patterns in number.

Thematic Curriculum:

In Thematic this week we looked at Broadstairs' past and present. We also took part in our Wow Day, where we compared the UK to Italy. We made fresh pasta shells, drew a portrait in the style of Da Vinci, sang like an opera singer and made laurel wreath crowns. It was a fun day!

Next week we will look at the topography of Broadstairs.
