One Childhood - One Chance

11.07.25 Year 3 Weekly News

Another busy week in Year 3!

RE

This week in our RE lessons, we began learning about Sikhism, one of the world’s major religions. We explored what Sikhism is, its origins, and where in the world it is practised today. The children were especially interested to learn about the Gurus-we had some great discussions and thoughtful questions as we started to understand the values and traditions of the Sikh faith.

Next week, we’ll be diving deeper into the key beliefs of Sikhism, discovering what Sikhs believe and how those beliefs are reflected in their daily lives

English

This week in English, the children have been diving into the world of poetry, with a special focus on Haikus. They’ve been learning about the structure of Haiku poems and exploring how just a few words can create vivid images and emotions. As part of their exploration, the children have read and analysed a range of Haikus to understand the rhythm, themes, and techniques used by poets.

Next week, the children will put their creativity to the test as they write their own Haiku poems inspired by Charlotte’s Web. They'll be using moments and imagery from the story as a stimulus to craft thoughtful and imaginative verses.

We can’t wait to see the wonderful poems they create!

Maths

This week in Maths, the children have been putting their skills to the test by solving a variety of problems using a wide range of strategies they’ve developed throughout the year. It’s been fantastic to see them apply their knowledge confidently and choose the most effective methods to tackle different challenges. From working systematically to using trial and error, the children have shown great perseverance and mathematical thinking.

Next week, we’ll continue this journey as the children take on more open-ended investigations, encouraging them to think creatively, explain their reasoning, and explore multiple solutions.

Home Learning

Attached below is the overarching Thematic Curriculum homework ideas. Please refer to the homework menu which gives a variety of creative tasks for the children to choose from. Children only need to complete one task as a minimum, but can choose to complete more if they wish.

Spellings

To support children with their spellings, we would like children to practise ‘Level 2- PRESSURE PROUT Bundle’

To access it on a laptop, PC, Mac or Chromebook (therefore IWBs):
1. Type in the browser itself where you normally type www (not a search engine)...app.sirlinkalot.org (with no Ws before it)
2. Click on 'More' (top right)
3. Click on 'Sign in'
4. The children will then need to type in their access code
