One Childhood - One Chance

Week commencing 7th March 2022

What a fabulous week in year 4!

This has been another fantastic week in Year 4!

This week and Upcoming learning:

Maths

This week the children have been learning how to add and subtract fractions, subtract fractions from whole amounts and find quantities of amounts. Next week, the children are problem-solving with fractions of amounts and learning about tenths and hundredths.

English

This week the children have been learning about instruction writing. They have had a focus on time conjunctions, imperative verbs and adverbs. At the beginning of the week the children created instructions on how to make a Roman oil lamp, and they then used this skill to write a Rotten Roman recipe! Next week, the children will be writing a newspaper report based on some interesting Roman discoveries!

UBBC

This week the children have learnt about the Roman army and why they were so powerful. We found out about Roman weapons, particularly focussed on the catapult. The children have sketched a catapult ready to create them next week!

Weekly reminder:

Home Learning:

In celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day 2022, your teachers would like YOU to research an inspirational woman who has made an impact on the world. This could be a woman in science, art, music, technology, sport or fighting equality; it is completely up to you! You can present your work in any format: through art, poetry, posters, writing or using technology. We are going to display those that make us go WOW in the hall! Miss Reed’s inspiration is Malala Yousafzai: a Pakistani protestor for equality in education and Miss Scarr’s one of many is Emmaline Pankhurst who fought for the right for women to vote!

Examples:

· Art: Freida Kahlo

· Science: Marie Curie

· Racial Equality: Rosa Parks

· Sport: Nicola Adams (Boxer)
