What a term!
RE
This week, we have been finding out about Christianity, as part of our RE learning. Our focus this term has been learning about the Bible and how this sacred text serves as a guide for Christians in their beliefs and daily lives. During our lessons, we explored why the Bible is so important to Christians and how the Bible influences Christians today. We also looked at different ways Christians interpret and understand the Bible. To showcase our learning, we created information posters, which we then shared with each other.
Learning about Christianity and the Bible has been a fascinating experience. It has given us a greater understanding of the religion and how it has shaped cultures and societies throughout history. Understanding different religious beliefs helps us appreciate diversity and respect the values of others.
During next term’s RE topic, we will be exploring the Islamic faith.
Maths
In our Maths lessons this week, we have continued our learning of time. Children have been learning how to distinguish between analogue and digital clocks. We have practised reading the hour and minute hands on an analogue clock and matching them with the corresponding digital time display. Recognising the differences between AM and PM has also been an essential part of our discussions, ensuring we can confidently tell the time no matter the format. Another important concept we have explored is time intervals. We have worked on calculating how much time has passed between two given times and solving real-life problems related to duration.
Next term, we will be moving onto learning about Fractions.
English
This week in our English lessons, we’ve been writing an information handbook detailing how to be a successful Roman soldier. Our handbooks included details about their roles, training, equipment, and daily lives. It has been an engaging and enriching experience that allowed us to develop both our writing and historical knowledge.
We started by investigating the key aspects of a Roman soldier’s life. From the rigorous training they endured to the disciplined lifestyle they followed, we discovered just how tough it was to be a part of the Roman army. As we compiled our information, we focused on making the handbook both informative and engaging. We worked on writing in a clear, structured way, ensuring our facts were well-organised and easy to understand. We also included illustrations, images and a Glossary. This project not only helped us improve our research and writing skills but also made history feel more tangible and exciting.
Next term, we will be moving onto a new text in English. Year 3 will be reading and studying: The Great Chocoplot! We can’t wait!
Thematic
Next term, our thematic title is 'Maya: The Rise and Fall', where children will explore the fascinating history of the ancient Maya civilisation.
To help support your child with their learning, we provide children a Knowledge Organiser—a single-page document that summarises essential facts, key concepts, and important vocabulary related to this topic. This organiser serves as a learning tool, allowing children to easily access, retain, and apply their knowledge.
We have attached the Knowledge Organiser below for your reference. We encourage you to review it with your child at home and use it as a guide for discussions, which will help reinforce what they learn in class and make connections to their broader understanding of history.
Additionally, we have included flashcards with picture prompts to support vocabulary retention. These visual aids can be a great way to engage children in learning through interactive activities. You can use them to quiz your child on key terms or to encourage storytelling and discussion about Maya culture.
We appreciate your continued support in enhancing your child’s education. If you have any questions or need additional resources, please feel free to reach out to us.
We look forward to an exciting term of discovery and learning!
