Term 6: My Home, Your Home

This term in Year 4 we are learning about Broadstairs. We will be learning about the history of the town and what makes it a great place to live and visit. We will also be looking at the classification of animals and how the environment can change and pose dangers. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term.

English:

This week in English, we wrote dialogue using correct speech punctuation, including inverted commas. We also planned our narrative, re-telling Ahmet’s journey, and wrote the first chapter. We are now over half-way through reading ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’.

Next week we will continue and complete the narrative, re-telling Ahmet’s journey.

Maths:

In maths this week, we completed our post-unit quiz which focused on coordinates and translations. We began our penultimate unit for the year, which is all about investigating patterns in numbers and sequences.

Next week we will continue investigating patterns and sequences.

Thematic Curriculum:

In Thematic this week, we looked at the topography of Broadstairs and created a diorama of a part of Broadstairs, ensuring the elevation and land use of the chosen location was shown.

Next week we will turn our attention to science and how we can classify different animals.

Matilda Jr and Skateboarding

Year 4 were invited to watch a showing of Matilda Jr at The Charles Dickens School this week. The children enjoyed it immensely and their behaviour was excellent throughout. We are now looking forward to seeing the Year 6 production, at the end of the term, even more.

This week, the children also took part in some skateboarding sessions with an experienced skateboarder. They donned their knee and elbow pads, along with a helmet, and tried jumping on and off the board as well as moving themselves along either on their own or with the help of a partner. They also tried the pancake flip and many have now found a new hobby! Well done to all the children for giving it a go.
