27.6.25 Year 5 Weekly News
Term 6 Week 4
English
This week, the children wrote a flashback in the style of the class text. The children wrote from the main characters point of view, flashing back to a past event. The focus of this writing was to use a range of openers and to engage the reader with vocabulary choice. Next week, the children have the opportunity to publish two pieces of writing and to create their house captain speeches should they wish to represent their class next year.
Maths
This week, the children have focused on volume and cubed numbers. They learnt how to multiply a number by itself three times and how this connects to volume. They also completed their termly arithmetic assessment. Next week, the children will be learning about negative numbers and dividing with remainders.
Thematic
This week the classes split; half the year group planned their DT project using Tinkercad whilst the other half learnt about environmental change and renewable and non-renewable energy sources. Next week, the classes will swap. On Friday, the children have DT day, where they will build their wind turbines using their plans. The children do not need to bring anything in for this.
Summer Fair
This week, we spoke to the children about the Summer Fair. This will run the same as the Christmas Fair, however it will be outside (weather permitted.) If you have any questions about this then please ask the class teacher.
Skateboarding
This week, the children participated in a skateboarding lesson! It was such a great opportunity for the children and many of them faced something new!
