One Childhood - One Chance

24.10.24 Year 3 Weekly News

As we reach the end of the final week of term, we have, once again lots to celebrate in the life of Year 3!

RE

This week, we’ve introduced the children to the basics of Judaism- what it means to be Jewish and the importance of faith and tradition in Jewish life. We talked about how Judaism traces back thousands of years and how it has influenced other major religions, like Christianity and Islam. The children were fascinated to learn about the rich cultural and spiritual heritage that comes with this ancient faith.

One of the central parts of our learning, has been examining the Ten Commandments, which the children learnt, are a set of moral guidelines given to the Jewish people by God. We also delved into the Torah, which is the most sacred text in Judaism. The children were particularly intrigued by how the Torah is read during Jewish worship services, with great respect and care, and how it teaches not only religious practices but also values like fairness and compassion.

Throughout our lessons, the children have participated in lively discussions, asked thoughtful questions, and engaged in creative activities to deepen their understanding. It’s been a rewarding experience for the children.

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been working hard on an exciting new concept: partitioning, comparing, and ordering three-digit numbers. These foundational skills are essential for building confidence in working with larger numbers, and it’s been wonderful to see how engaged the children have been in their learning! We began by learning how to partition three-digit numbers. By practising partitioning, the children have been developing a clearer sense of place value—a crucial concept that will help them as they work with increasingly larger numbers.

We then moved on to comparing three-digit numbers. The children learnt to use the greater than (>) and less than (<) symbols to compare two numbers, before then learning how to order three-digit numbers, from smallest to largest (ascending) and largest to smallest (descending). This helped solidify their understanding of place value and gave them plenty of opportunities to work with number sequences. We’re so proud of the progress our Year 3 mathematicians are making, and we’re confident these skills will serve them well as they continue to grow in their understanding of numbers.

English

This week in English, the children have been working on a creative and exciting writing task. Inspired by the core text, the children have been stepping into the shoes of ‘Om’ one of the key characters and writing their very own recounts from the character’s perspective. It’s been amazing to see the creativity and effort the children have put into their writing. Many of them have shown a great ability to get into the mindset of their characters, describing everything from hunting fish to exploring caves. Well done to our amazing children

Thank you!

Whether you're embarking on exciting adventures or simply enjoying some well-deserved downtime at home, we hope you return refreshed and rejuvenated, ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities that await us in the weeks ahead.

As we bid farewell to another term, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of our families for your unwavering support of the school and your children’s education. Thank you also to all the parents who attended the Parent Teacher Consultations this week; it was a joy to see the enthusiasm and positivity towards the children’s learning and education, from both children and adults, alike. Discussing the incredible progress and growth that children have made across the year, really has been a highlight for the year 3 team!
