Term 4: Innovation Station
This term in Year 4 we are learning about the ancient inventions of the Islamic world and how we still use some of the products today. We will be learning about the Silk Road and how trade played a crucial role in the innovation of new ideas. We will also be exploring electricity, including circuits and how different materials can be classified as insulators or conductors. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make, the possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought back into school before the last week of term. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success! Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term.
We look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.
English:
In English this week we read chapter one of our new text: The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. We were introduced to the main character – a china rabbit called Edward Tulane and his owner, Abilene. We used vivid and rich vocabulary to describe the appearance and personality of the little rabbit.
During our Book Banter session this week, we shared books with each other where a character shows a positive growth arc,
Next week we will be writing diary entries as Edward about some of the events in chapter two.
Maths:
This week in maths we started our new topic of time. We looked at both analogue and digital clocks in 12 and 24-hour time. We also began to convert between hours, minutes and seconds.
Next week we will be continuing to convert between units of time and will explore some word problems.
Thematic Curriculum:
Our afternoon lessons this week had a focus on PSHE. We discussed what it is to be kind and how we can show it. We have also learnt about safe and unsafe touching as well as keeping secrets and what we should do if we ever feel uncomfortable in these situations.
Next week we will begin our new topic – Innovation Station.
