8.11.24 Year 5 Weekly News

Term 2 Week 1

Welcome back year 5! What a busy first week back it has been!

English

The children were introduced to our new text, 'Cosmic' this week, which links to our thematic topic this term. The week started with an art focus- the children painted the Nebula onto black paper! We then focused on figurative language and used this to describe the Nebula. The children used a range of similes, metaphors, personification and alliteration to descibe the colourful images in space. Next week, the children are writing a narrative.

Maths

This week, the children have been looking at multiplication and division. They have been finding factors and multiples of numbers, exploring prime and composite numbers and beginning to look at multiplying and dividing by 10. Next week, the children will continue their journey of multiplication and division.

PSHE

Our new term started with PD day on Monday. The children write speeches to express their opinions about discrimination. For their afternoon learning this term, we have been looking at protected characteristics and prejudice. The children created art work, sorted scenarios and also wrote poems to express themselves. Next week, we will be starting our new topic, 'Stargazers.'

TTRS COMPETITION

Next week, their will be a TTRS competition for the children across the school. It is against other schools across the country. Please encourage your child to participate for their times tables homework next week.
