This week, the children have continued to read their class text, ‘Street Child.’ They have written comparative letters this week focusing on emotive language. The children wrote a letter from Jim to mum pretending life in the workhouse was great and he was making lots of friends and eating well. Towards the end of the week, the children wrote the truthful letter to mum. They wrote about how difficult it was in the workhouse, how they were underfed and how miserable everything was. Next week, the children will be planning through art. On Tuesday, they will create a piece of artwork to portray the workhouse. This will lead to a setting description focusing on fronted adverbials.
Maths
This week, the children have been converting measurements using multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. Next week, they will continue this unit and begin to represent decimal numbers.
Thematic
This week, the children visited the Hurricane and Spitfire Museum. The purpose of the visit was to find sources of history and whether they were primary or secondary sources. This trip was a fantastic way to introduce the children to their new topic this term, ‘Tides of Change.’ This topic will run through two terms and focus on how Ramsgate and Broadstairs have changed throughout history and how it has changed geographically. Next week, the children will be learning about Operation Dynamo and Ramsgate’s involvement in this.

Homework
- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.
- All children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.
