Year 6 Weekly News 7.3.25

This week in Year 6...

SATs Practice

Dear Parents/Carers,

Next week on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, the children will be completing a series of SATs papers in reading, maths and SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar). The purpose of these days is to allow the children to experience, as close as possible, the procedures and rooms that are planned for the actual SATs in May.  We understand that children often worry about SATs, so we are giving them this experience for familiarisation and reassurance.

Finally, the most important thing approaching the SATs is that your child is happy. At this end, we will only ever ask them to do their best and we are sure that you will be reinforcing this message at home.

If you have any further questions, please do ask your child’s class teacher.

Yours sincerely

Year 6 Team

English

In English this week, Year 6 wrote a newspaper report detailing the first wave of evacuation during WWII. On Thursday, as part of our World Book Day celebrations, each Year 6 class headed down to their corresponding Year 3 class to enjoy some shared reading.

Maths

This week we have explored coordinates and translated and reflected a range of shapes.

Thematic Curriculum

This week, we have started our new Thematic Curriculum topic, ‘Paths to Peace’ and explored the events leading up the start of WWII, including the rise of Hitler and Chamberlain’s policy of appeasement.

Next week, we will explore key events in the aftermath of Britain’s declaration of war. We will be enjoying lots of fun and engaging activities on Wednesday as part of British Science Week.

Homework

- This term’s Thematic Curriculum grid is attached below.

- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.

- Children should be playing TTRS at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.

- Most children have now taken their Term 4 AR Star Reader assessment and their ZPD can be found on their AR account. They will also receive a sticker next week to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.

Welcome (renaissance-go.com)
