One Childhood - One Chance

Weekly update 11.02.22

Happy Friday everyone! What a fantastic term we have had in Year 3, well done to everyone for all the hard work across this term. We are now halfway through the academic year, and we are delighted to see the children flourishing at Upton! We hope that you all have a lovely, well deserved half term!

In English this week, Year 3 have finished writing their fantasy story, edited and improved it and then published it. The children worked so hard to publish the best version of their story in their best handwriting. We also completed a cross-curricular write where the children used all of their learning from our UBBC topic 'May the force be with you' to write a fact file about forces.

In Maths this week, we created our own question to collect data from our class with. We collected the data using a tally chart and then presented the data using a bar chart. We then finished up our statistics unit by interpreting tables.

In UBBC, we had our fun and exciting fabulous finish where the children explored forces by making a catapult and a straw aeroplane. We then got outside and watched the forces in action as we played! Also, this week we clarified our learning from our topic 'May the force be with you' and had our reward afternoon for the fantastic behaviour that we have seen across the term.

Next term:

The first week back will be PD (personal development) week, where we will be doing some PSHE and E-Safety. In UBBC, year 3 will be starting their new topic Egypt.

In Maths, we will be looking at measurement and fractions.

In English, we will be starting our wonderful new text, 'Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx' which links to our UBBC topic, Egypt.

Key reminders and messages:

Monday 21st - Inset day

Next term Blue and Green class will be swimming on a Thursday.

PE will be on a Wednesday for all.

28th Feb - is our stunning start. The children are invited to come in wearing an Ancient Egyptian outfit. We don't want you to have to spend lots of money on this so please see the letter for DIY ideas!

3rd March - World Book Day. We have chosen 'The Day the Crayons Quit' as our book. The children in Year 3 can come to school dressed as a character from this book (a crayon). We have attached some examples of possible DIY costumes for this, or they could come dressed head to toe in the colour of their crayon. If you are not familiar with the story follow this link to listen to the book - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=489micE6eHU .

Have a lovely half term!
