One Childhood - One Chance

Weekly Update 24.11.23

Another amazing week in Year 3! Let's see what we have been up to.

Reminders:

We have a number of children who have missing, named uniform items. If you do find you have an item of clothing belonging to another child, please could you return to school and we will reunite it with its owner! Thank you.

- Red and Yellow class have swimming on a Monday.

- Tuesday is PE day, so please send your child into school wearing their PE kit.

- Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct school uniform.

- 29th and 30th November – open day at Upton for Year 2 families.

- 7th December – Year 3 Christmas Dinner

- 8th December – Christmas fair (children will arrange a stall in school and will need to bring in prizes and things needed to run the stall).

- 12th December – Year 3 Christmas Panto trip (we will be leaving at 12 so the children will need to bring a coat, water bottle and snack with them for the panto).

- 13th December – Year 3 Christmas Party.

- 15th December – Last day of term.

Kindness cup:

Every week a child from each class will be awarded the kindness cup - a special trophy that sits on their desk for the whole week. A child is either chosen by their teacher or nominated by their peers for displaying kindness that week.

The winners for this week are:

3B – Charlotte

3G - Isla

3R - Mia

3Y - Effie

English

In English this week, we have been writing newspaper reports. We have recounted the events of the ‘return of the Iron Man’ and have used indirect speech. The children have created some fantastic headlines!

Next week we will be creating our own creature and writing a non-chronological report about it.

Maths

Our Maths learning this week has been focused on column addition and column subtraction using the column method.

Next week we will be moving on to look at length and perimeter.

Thematic

In our thematic learning this week we have been learning about light and dark. We have investigated different light sources and discussed transparent, translucent and opaque materials. On Friday we were lucky enough to have a fabulous optician come in and talk to us about UV light and how we can protect our eyes.

Next week we are going to be learning about reflective materials and shadows.

Homework

- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.

- Children have now been given their log-in details for Times Table Rock Stars. They should be playing this at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.

- Children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.

Welcome (renaissance-go.com)

- Spelling shed homework has also been set for the children to complete by next Friday.

- Please see the homework menu attached for our thematic homework.

We hope that you have a lovely weekend and are looking forward to seeing you all next week!
