One Childhood - One Chance

Weekly Update 1.12.23

Let's see what we've been up to in Year 3...

Reminders:

We have a number of children who have missing, named uniform items. If you do find you have an item of clothing belonging to another child, please could you return to school and we will reunite it with its owner! Thank you.

Next Friday, Upton will be holding our annual Christmas Fair. The great majority of the stalls are run by the children! In Year 3, we start off by running a whole class stall.

Each class has discussed their stall and their teacher will have shared what they need for the day.

3B- Please could we have donations of paper/plastic cups and  small prizes for our stall.

3G - Please could we have donations of multipack (Haribo etc) sweets for our stall and Nerf guns/bullets

3R- Please could we have donations of multipack (Haribo etc) sweets for our stall.

3Y – Please could we have donations of multipack (Haribo etc) sweets for our stall.

- Red and Yellow class have swimming on a Monday.

- Tuesday is PE day, so please send your child into school wearing their PE kit.

- Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct school uniform.

- 7th December – Year 3 Christmas Dinner

- 8th December – Christmas fair (children will arrange a stall in school and will need to bring in prizes and items needed to run the stall). Festive clothes (Christmas Jumpers) can be worn in return for a donation for the bottle tombola.

- 13th December – Year 3 Christmas Party.

- 15th December – Last day of term.

Kindness cup:

Every week a child from each class will be awarded the kindness cup - a special trophy that sits on their desk for the whole week. A child is either chosen by their teacher or nominated by their peers for displaying kindness that week.

The winners for this week are:

3B – Poppy

3G – Annie

3R - Alexander

3Y – Beatrice

English

In English this week, we created imaginative menus for the Iron Man, including barbed wire spaghetti and rusted garlic stoves. We then dreamt up a mythical space creature inspired by the Space-Bat-Angel-Dragon from the Iron Man.

Next week we will finish our non-chronological reports and begin planning a narrative based on Iron Man’s next adventure.

Maths

This week we have kicked off our unit on length and perimeter and practised our times tables. Next week we will continue our focus on length and perimeter.

Thematic

In our thematic learning this week we have been learning about reflective materials and shadows. The children were so engaged in creating shadow puppets inspired by the Iron Man story and testing materials to see if they were reflective.

We all enjoyed watching this performance in class: What a Wonderful World Shadow Puppet - YouTube

Next week we are going to be focusing on R.E, learning all about Hinduism.

Homework

- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.

- Children have now been given their log-in details for Times Table Rock Stars. They should be playing this at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.

- Children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.

Welcome (renaissance-go.com)

- Spelling shed homework has also been set for the children to complete by next Friday.

- Please see the homework menu attached for our thematic homework.

We hope that you have a lovely weekend and are looking forward to seeing you all next week!
