Weekly News and Looking Ahead
The children have enjoyed a fabulous first week of learning!
This week we have begun our work on decimals. The children have been exploring tenths as fractions, decimals and on place value grids, and we have practised dividing 1 and 2-digit numbers by 10.
We have kicked off this term by exploring non-fiction texts about the Ancient Greek gods, ahead of beginning our Greek God-themed fiction text – “Who Let The Gods Out”, by Maz Evans - next week. After reading and taking notes, we created a non-chronological report about Greek Gods.
Afternoon Thematic Curriculum:
This week has had a Personal Development theme as we explored the importance of community and looked at issues including discrimination, human rights, and being safe online. We also enjoyed a whole day of Religious Education focused on understanding Islam and the culture and achievements of Muslims living in UK. Next week we begin the topic of Greece with our Stunning Start Design Technology project to build a Greek chariot and to discover the delights of Greek cuisine. Don’t forget to join in the fun by dressing up with a Greek theme!
This week, our homework is focused on understanding the links between the most important Ancient Greek Gods. We would like you to create a family tree of the first generation of Olympians by exploring the connections between the Titans Cronus and Rhea, their children: Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter and Hestia, and the principal offspring of Zeus: Aphrodite, Athena, Artemis, Apollo, Ares, Hephaestus, Hermes and Dionysus. How you present the information is up to you. Be creative!
This term, our KIRF is the multiplication and division facts for the 12 times tables. See attached.
