One Childhood - One Chance

Week commencing 3.1.24

A stunning start to Term 3!

The first week of Term 3 has come and gone in a flash! The children have enjoyed a short but stunning week of learning, with our focus being on personal development and in particular understanding how our actions can affect others, what is acceptable physical contact in the school setting and all about the concept of keeping a secret and why it is ok to break this promise in certain situations.

We also found time to start our Maths and English learning for the term…

In Maths, we have been focused on dividing using partitioning. Next week, we will continue to look at division in Maths with the focus on mastering the formal method for short multiplication and solving reasoning problems using the division skills we have learnt.

In English, we kicked of our theme of Cracking the Earth’s Core by creating an information text all about Mount St. Helens volcano in the United States of America. Next week, our English studies will be focused on creating character descriptions, as we look to bring to life the mysterious skeleton woman from our new class text, and setting descriptions as we use figurative language to describe what a volcano looks like before & after an eruption.

In the afternoon we start our Thematic work on understanding the structure of the earth, how volcanoes are formed and what causes earthquakes.

Homework

Please see the homework menu attached. The children need to choose ONE activity each week that they would like to have a go at. There are 15 activities to choose from to provide a wide range of options. When they have completed a piece of homework, they can send it in either in the book, through photos or bringing something to share.

What a fabulous week year 4! Well done!
