One Childhood - One Chance

Week commencing 15.01.24

What a busy week in Year 4!

In Maths this week, the children begun their learning about fractions. The children have investigated what a fraction is, looking at key vocabulary such as numerator and denominator, before learning about equivalent fractions. The children have used both a fraction wall and number lines to find fractions that are equivalent. They have done a fantastic job. Next week, we will continue our work on fractions, looking at fractions of quantities and amounts.

In English, the children have spent a week learning about newspapers. This started with ‘book banter’ in which the children read a range of newspaper articles and identified their features. The children went on to create their own headlines, using alliteration, before writing their own newspaper report about the eruption of Mount Pelee on the Caribbean Island of Martinique. Next week, the children will learn about Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, before writing a dialogue between two characters.

In the afternoon, we continued our topic focusing on earthquakes and volcanic eruptions around the world, conducting research and creating case studies about specific regions to present to the class. They did a fantastic job and are really enjoying this topic!

Homework

Please see the homework menu attached. The children need to choose ONE activity each week that they would like to have a go at. There are 15 activities to choose from to provide a wide range of options. When they have completed a piece of homework, they can send it in either in the book, through photos or bringing something to share.

What a super week year 4! Well done!
