One Childhood - One Chance

Week commencing 22.1.24

A fantastic week in year 4!

In Maths this week, the children continued their learning about fractions. The children have found non-unit fractions of amounts and their equivalent fractions, they have learnt how to divide fractions and ordered them on a number line! Next week, the children will be learning about mixed numbers and adding and subtracting fractions.

In English, we kickstarted the week by learning all about Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. The children recalled the events of that fateful day through a big write. This was a perfect opportunity for them to showcase their writing skills! We finished reading 'I Survived the Eruption of Mount St Helens' this week and the children wrote dialogue between two characters, focusing on inverted commas. Next week, the children will be writing their own 'I Survived' story based on a volcanic eruption or an earthquake!

In the afternoon, we  plotted volcanoes on a map of Italy and researched whether they were active or extinct. The children then wrote their opinions on whether they agreed or disagreed with particular aspects of living near a volcano. Today, the children began designing their DT project for next week. They will be designing and building a model of an earthquake-resistant building.

Homework

Please see the homework menu attached. The children need to choose ONE activity each week that they would like to have a go at. There are 15 activities to choose from to provide a wide range of options. When they have completed a piece of homework, they can send it in either in the book, through photos or bringing something to share.

What a super week year 4! Well done!
