One Childhood - One Chance

Week commencing 19.2.24

First week of term 4 was a busy one!

What a first week back year 4 have had!

In Maths this week, the children continued their learning about fractions. The children were learning how to find unit and non-unit fractions of amounts and using them in a real-life context. We then played a game of would you rather using fractions of amounts! Next week, children will be learning about time. This will involve converting between analogue and digital time and understanding periods of time.

In English, we started the week with some research on famous inventors linking to electricity. The children learnt about inventors such as Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla and Maria Telkes and then wrote a biography about them and their achievements. In the second half of the week, the children read the first chapter of our new text 'The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.' The children read this without seeing the front cover so they could draw what they thought the main character looked like and then we revealed how close they were! Using this to inform their writing, the children wrote a character description of Edward Tulane. Next week, the children will be focusing on recounts. We will read more of the text and write diary entries from the perspective of the main character.

Monday was Good to Be Me day and the focus was hazards, risks and dangers. The children were learning all about hazards, risks and dangers in their everyday lives. We looked at safety on the roads, at home and at school. This links to our new topic, Innovation Station, which we will be starting on Monday. In the afternoons this week, we have been learning about flooding and asthma.
