One Childhood - One Chance

Year 4 Weekly News 26.4.24

Fabulous Week for year 4!

In Maths this week,  the children have been working hard on finding the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes. The week has been full of practical measuring around the school, geoboard work and finding the area on a map of the Taj Mahal! Next week, the children will be starting a new unit on solving problems with money and measures. This will give the children the idea of maths in a real life context, such as having enough money or an item being too heavy or light.

In English this week, the children wrote a narrative poem focusing on rhythm and rhyme. They followed the journey of the main character in the story and wrote about his journey in the sea. Next week, the children will be planning a description through art and then writing a description of the fishing village. The focus will be rich and varied vocabulary.

This week in thematic, the children started their new topic 'Water World.' They started the week by making dioramas to represent the different stages of the water cycle. On Wednesday, they made rivers using soil, stones and tinfoil to represent the river bed. They then poured water into their rivers and changed the gradient to watch the flow change. On Friday, the children drew the rivers they had created and labelled the key features. Next week, the children are learning about rivers in the UK.
