Weekly News 25.11.22

Key Messages:  

  • Reminder to ensure children are reading at home and bringing in their reading records.  

  • Please ensure children are completing TTRs, Spelling Shed and Mymaths with their logins that can be found in their reading books.  

  • Please ensure children are bringing in their water bottles.  

Next week is our Open Day on Wednesday and Thursday, and we cannot wait to show the community how incredible Upton is. Please ensure that children are wearing correct school uniform and shoes. 

Home Learning Task:   

This week we have been learning about China's rapid economic growth, and the impact on its environment and people. Research a different country's economic growth and create a fact file presenting your findings.  

CHALLENGE - compare your chosen country's economic growth to that of China's. How are they similar? How are they different? 

English:  

This week the children have been writing three different story openers for our text, The Firework Maker's Daughter. These have included:  

  • A setting description using a range of figurative language 

  •  A dialogue using direct speech punctuation and 

  • An opening that is full of action which allowed the children to use powerful verbs and adverbs. 

Next week, the children will be writing a letter from the main character Lila, using a range of emotive language and cohesive devices. 

  
Maths:  

This week in maths we have been focusing on adding mixed number and beginning to subtract fractions.  

 Next week, we will be moving onto to learning how to subtract mixed numbers. Please ensure children are accessing TTRS to learn their times tables as this underpins everything in maths.  

Thematic Curriculum:  

This week we have learnt about the China's economic growth and the positive and negatives that accompanied it. Next week, we will begin to explore the Shang Dynasty. 

  

Reading:  

Minimum 3x a week. Reading record must be signed by an adult. Can be completed on your own or with your parents.  

  

Spelling Shed:   

Once a week – Friday to Friday.   

Tasks will be completed online, with new tasks set every week.  

Tasks will always follow the spellings being taught in class that week.   

  
  

 Times Tables Rock Stars:  

Minimum 3x a week.  

Can be completed on tablets, laptops or mobile phones though the app or the website.  

  
  

 My Maths:  

Once a week – Friday to Friday.  

Tasks will be completed online, with new tasks set every week.  

Tasks will always follow the subjects being taught in class that week.
