Home Learning:

This week, we have been exploring the beautiful story of 'The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse'. The book reminds everyone that reads it of the qualities in life that are so incredibly important. Love, hope, friendship and the courage of asking for help. On Friday, we spent the day learning about the origins of Buddhism and they key teachings of the four noble truths and the eight-fold path. Buddhists endeavour to live a life built on kindness, compassion and selflessness based on these teachings.
The children were able to reflect on times when they have acted with these qualities and share their thoughts and ideas which was wonderful for us to see.

Task

We would like the children to consider how we could make Upton a kinder place for all. This could be shown by creating a kindness poster or guide that explains what kindness is and how we can show others what it means to be a kind and considerate person. They could create a kindness pledge/promise for their class or perhaps write a poem about kindness and friendship. Be creative and have fun!

 My Maths:

On Thursday, we started reading our new text 'Viking Boy'. The children looked at the front and back covers and were able to make predictions, inferences and ask questions about the story. They then gathered some exciting vocabulary, ready to use next week for their character description of Gunnar.

In maths, the children have been calculating 4 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers, recalling their knowledge of place value and times tables to support them. Next week, we will be continuing our learning with long multiplication, reasoning and problem - solving.
