Termly Home Learning Task

This term, Year 5 have explored the topic of space through our thematic lessons. It has been great to see the passion and enthusiasm for the subject and how the children have been inspired to create some fabulous pieces of homework. We have had fact files, information booklets, a pizza solar system, made up planets made in both 2D and 3D media and large light-up solar system models, to name a few. We have been blown away by the talent of Year 5. Here are some more of the wonderful pieces that have been brought in…

There is just one more weekend to get something done/ finished, so why not try out one of the ideas below or think of something else space related. We can’t wait to see what is brought in.

English:

In English this week we explored the question: ‘Should Liam be the adult to supervise the children going into space?’ We looked at both the benefits and drawbacks, ensuring we elaborated on and explained our thinking. We wrote our ideas down within a balanced argument, written to help Dr Drax decide whether Liam should go or not. The children used cohesive devices to link their ideas across and within paragraphs.

Next week we will be writing an electronic blog entry from the perspective of one of the children who have been sent into space.

Maths:

This week in maths we focused on division. We began the week by looking at how we can divide using multiples and then used a written method for short division to answer a range of problems, ensuring that the remainder was interpreted correctly based on the context. We also completed our post-unit quiz for multiplication and division.

Next week we will be consolidating our maths learning from the term through Christmas related tasks.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week the children have explored the Hindu religion. We looked at the way Hindus live their lives and the idea of karma, moksha and reincarnation. We also looked at the festivals of Diwali Navaratri and Holi, and looked at what a day in the life of a young Hindu is like.

Next week our afternoon lessons will be occupied with Christmas-related events, like the pantomime and Christmas parties.
