Year 6 Key messages and homework 20th January 2023

Another fantastic week in year 6 where the children have shown the Upton Way!

Key Messages:

  • Please send your child into school with a pair of outdoor shoes, so they are able to go on the school field.
  • Bs and Gs are swimming this term, please make sure they have their swimming kits on Mondays.
  • PE is on Tuesdays – children to come to school in the PE kit.

Home Learning Task

This week we have started our World War Two Topic – We’ll Meet Again. We have focused upon the chronology of history in our first few lessons along with key events leading to upon to the war. For your homework, could you research a famous figure in WW2 or discover a relative who was involved in this war – what was their role? Part of the RAF or a child who was evacuated? This is due in on Wednesday 25th January.

Reading:         ​

Minimum 3x a week. Reading record must be signed by an adult. Can be completed on your own or with your parents.

Spelling Shed:

Friday to Friday.

Tasks will be completed online, with new tasks set every week.

Tasks will always follow the spellings being taught in class that week.

Times Tables Rock Stars:         ​

Minimum 3x a week.

Can be completed on tablets, laptops or mobile phones though the app or the website.

MyMath’s:

Once a week – Friday to Friday.

Weekly Review:

This week we have continued our text, ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’. The children have been writing their own newspaper reports based upon a key event in the story. Alongside this we have developed our comprehension skills and hot seated characters from the text. In our afternoon topic lessons the children have taken part in a Jive workshop in our PE lesson. Additionally we have learnt about key events leading up to the war, along with the chronology of history.
