4Y visit Canterbury Cathedral
Today we took the coach up to the lovely city Canterbury to find out just why it is a city. We were dropped off at the coach station and walked down to the entrance of the cathedral where we saw just how gigantic and amazing it looks from afar. Throughout the day we took part in different activities such as using tools that the workers would have used to build the cathedral, and even a guided tour around the cathedral dressed up as pilgrims, knights, a king and Thomas Becket himself!
We learnt a bit about the history of the cathedral and how much of a central role Thomas Becket played and still plays. The whole trip was part of our new topic; Communities, where we find out about different communities in the world and what makes them work. Next, we will be looking a bit more at our own community and taking a trip around Broadstairs to see what keeps it running on a daily basis.
