9th September 2021 - As part of our topic ‘Knowing Me, Knowing You’, our Year 3 children will be taking part in a ‘Stunning Start’ in which they will undertake activities to get to know one another, and Upton, a little better. This will take place on Monday 13th September 2021. The children will have Maths and English as normal and our Stunning Start will take place in the afternoon.
To help get into the spirit of the topic and to aid us in learning a little bit more about each other, we are inviting children to come to school dressed in their favourite outfits (they can wear this all day). This may be a football kit, their favourite comfy jumper, their favourite sparkly dress, an outfit that is their favourite colour – the list is endless! Please note, the children will wear these outfits outside at break and lunchtime so please send them in something you are happy for them to wear to play in. Whatever they pick, they can share with us what they like so much about it!
We are really looking forward to seeing the year group dressed up in their favourite items of clothing and learning a little more about them!
9th September 2021 - On the 15th September, Year 6 will be enjoying their first stunning start of the academic year. Children who are not taking part in the event will be involved in activities with their teachers and should also wear non-uniform on the day.
Once the event starts, children will not be allowed back in school because they are covered in powder and so will bring all items out with them at the start

We look forward to a fantastic event.
2nd September 2021 - Tuesdays – Choir – Audition required (current members do not need to re-audition, just turn up to the first meeting)
Our choir is open to all year groups, but by short audition only. For the audition a short song should be prepared and be sung without any backing, (I always suggest a simple school song, not the latest tune from a musical, since these are often written for adult voices and don’t enable their voice to really shine).
Auditions will be held at lunchtimes week beginning 6th Sept. All your child needs to do is come to the Music Room from 12:15 pm – 12:40 pm for Years 5 & 6 and from 12:40 pm – 1:05 pm for Years 3 & 4 from Mon to Thurs and sing their song! Year 3 children, please see your class teacher to help you find the Music room.
Children will be told there and then if they have a place. If I feel that they are not quite ready for choir yet, I will recommend to them that they join the lunchtime Singing Club starting later in the term, (this allows children to gain experience and confidence).
Club Start Date: Tuesday 14th September
2nd September 2021 – Wednesday – Rock Band Audition Information
Rock Band is open to all year groups, but it is by audition only. We are looking for drummers, guitarists, keyboard players and vocalists, although in the past we have had a violinist and a saxophonist! It is strongly recommended that instrumentalists are also receiving private tuition on their instruments. Rock teaches pupils how to use their instrument in a band in a coaching rather than teaching setup.
Auditions will be held at lunchtimes week beginning 13th Sept from 12:15 pm – 12:40 pm for Years 5 & 6 and from 12:40 pm – 1:05 pm for Years 3 & 4.
Vocalists just need to prepare a rock song to sing, keyboard players and guitarists – a short piece, and drummers bring their sticks only and be prepared to play a simple rock beat on the school drum kit. Guitarists need to bring their own instrument – electric is best, but an acoustic guitar is okay. Basically, guitarists and keyboard players need to be able to play a simple chord progression. Drummers just need to be able to hold a simple rock beat.
Club Start Date: Wednesday 22nd September
