20th July - A few reminders for the last day of school tomorrow.

19th July - Banded reading books should be returned to school for the Summer by Wednesday 21st July
16th July - Our current Year 3 children will welcome our new Year 3 children on Monday 19th July for a picnic. Your Year 3 child will only need to bring a sunhat and suncream, no toys or food are required. The picnic will take place after lunch and so children will need their normal lunchtime arrangements be it packed lunch or school dinner.

We will be holding the assemblies outside, so please come via the field gate and bring a picnic blanket or similar that your family can all sit on together. We are looking forward to welcoming you to the event and having the chance to celebrate your child's time at Upton.

16th July - Your child's End of Year School Report will be available to view in MCAS (www.mychildatschool.com) today after 4:30 pm. This will be found under the 'Reports' header in the app or on the website.
16th July - Year 2 Parents - Our picnic will still be going ahead on Monday 19th July. Unfortunately, we would like Teddy Bears to stay home for this picnic due to the ongoing pandemic. Instead, children can tell their toys all about their visit to Upton when they return home.
On the day when you arrive with your child at 1:20 pm, you will come to the main gate and onto the playground where you will see the class teachers. (St Mildreds’ children will be walked over by their current teachers.)
At 1:25 pm the Year 3 teachers will line up their ‘new’ class and lead the children on to our school field.
Our ‘new’ Year 3 children will spend the afternoon with our ‘current’ Year 3 pupils participating in fun activities.
Time will be spent with our current Year 3 pupils answering questions and explaining about life at Upton as well as taking part in team-building games.
The afternoon will end with a small picnic for the children to enjoy.
End of the afternoon arrangements: Please enter via the main gate and walk to the back playground at 2.45 pm where your child will be led out of school with their class teacher.

As you are aware due to covid restrictions we are only able to admit one person per pupil and so if you have small children/babies, they will not be able to attend with you on this occasion. We thank you for your continued support during these challenging times.
13th July - A reminder that Year 5 children will be selling their Enterprise Week items after school (3 pm onwards) in their classrooms tomorrow (Wednesday 14th July). Please bring along some money if you would like to purchase something. Children who use a green or red pass and would still like to purchase something can bring money in to do so.
13th July - A reminder that it is the Year 6 Wingham Trip tomorrow. Children need to:
Come wearing their normal full school uniform with appropriate footwear (such as trainers).
The children will need to arrive at school at 8:40 am.
We will return to school at 3.15 pm, children can be collected from the classroom as usual or go on their green or red passes. If there are any extended delays a message will be sent via the MCAS app/email.
They will need to bring a packed lunch and drinks (preferably water) which are sufficient for the day in a rucksack.
Please ensure they have suncream on and a sunhat. A raincoat may also be necessary weather dependant.
Children who receive free school meals will be provided with a packed lunch by the school kitchen.
If your child requires an inhaler or travel sickness tablet please ensure they have this with them.

12th July - A reminder that 3Y's Revolution Trip will take place on Wednesday 14th July, if you haven't done so already or are unsure please complete the Revolution Waiver must be completed by Tuesday 13th July. This will only take a few moments to complete and must be completed in full for your child to take part. 12th July - A reminder that 6Y will be going to Lilliputt Golf on Tuesday 13th July. They can bring a maximum of £5 to spend on a drink and ice cream. This trip will take place within normal school hours and is covered under local trip consent. They need to come to school wearing their PE kit/Sportswear again. 6Y will also be swimming in the afternoon and will need their swimming kit - goggles, hat, towel and swimwear.

9th July - We have had a fantastic 'Real-Life Maths and Enterprise Week' here at the school. Children have used Maths in the context of the real world in many differing ways.
Next week (beginning Monday 12th July) classes will be selling items after school (3 pm onwards) that they have created using the £50 given to each class. This will take place inside the classroom. Their challenge is to make a profit on this money!
If children leave school on a pass that day, they are welcome to bring money in to purchase an item themselves.
Parents may purchase items from the class their child is in.

9th July - Year 4 will be making scones on Monday, please can you send your child in with a scone cutter if you have one.
8th July - A reminder that tomorrow is Inflatable Fun Day – Year 6 will be playing on a variety of inflatable equipment for a fabulous fun-filled day! They need to come wearing their PE kit or sportswear.
7th July - 3Y will be dismissed from the 3G classroom on Thursday and Friday this week.

Our apologies that due to covid restrictions we are only able to admit one person per pupil and so if you have small children they will not be able to attend with you. 7th July - This is a reminder that if you require a space at the Viking Holiday Club or Saturday Sports 4 All Club, a key survey form and full payment is required. 7th July - A reminder that it is the Year 6 Sports Day tomorrow (Thursday 8th July) starting at 1:30 pm. Children will bring home their ticket today, the adult attending will be required to produce the ticket on entry to the field so keep it safe!
7th July - No Handball this Friday due to Year 5 Beach Trip.
6th July - Year 6 will be having an action-packed fun-filled week that will start this Friday with an Inflatables Fun Day and end next Friday with a day at the beach. Please see the letters here, one outlines the plans for each day, the other here provides specific details for the Wingham Wildlife Park Trip.
6th July - A reminder that Year 5 will be going to the beach on Friday 9th July.
The arrangements are:
· Meet at the Broadstairs Bandstand between 8:45 - 9:00 am
· Wear appropriate clothing such as a tshirt and shorts.
· Bring sun cream, hat/sunglasses, bucket and spade, a small towel to dry feet.
· Packed lunch (suitable to be eaten on a beach), plenty to drink (but not fizzy), no chocolate. If your child is eligible for Free School Meals one will be provided.
The children will NOT need money or a mobile phone.
Collection from the Broadstairs Bandstand between 3:00-3:15 pm, no leaving school passes will be valid every child must be collected.
6th July - Due to the weather today 4R & 4Y's beach trip was postponed. They will now join 4B & 4G tomorrow (Wednesday 7th July). All the arrangements will be the same as today. Children to come in uniform with appropriate footwear such as trainers, wear a sunhat, sun cream and bring a water bottle.
6th July - We would like to remind parents that drop off is 8:40 am, the playground gates will not open until this time. Any child arriving before this time will be unsupervised. Children should not be playing in the car park before or after school.
5th July - Year 6 will be baking cupcakes as part of their maths investigation on Wednesday 7th July. If you have a muffin tray please can your child bring this in with them in a named bag on Wednesday.
5th July - The menu on the last day of term will be fish fingers and chips.
5th July - Year 4 trip reminder. On the beach they will be litter picking, taking part in a scavenger hunt and enjoying ice creams paid for by the school.

We will leave school at approximately 9.30 am and plan to return to school before lunch.

5th July - Today (Monday 5th July) marks the start of 'Real Life Maths and Enterprise Week' at Upton. Across Maths lessons this week children will be taking part in activities that show them the value of Maths in the real world - not just as a lesson they have to do at school. In addition, children will be learning about money and will engage with aspects such as budgeting, profit and loss, VAT, wages linked to jobs and the stock market.
Each class has also been challenged to make their own profit from a class project linked to Enterprise. The school have given each Maths class £50 to create their own Enterprise and aim to turn a profit. Each class has decided what they will create and sell, priced it so that their income should exceed their expenditure and will be able to sell their items to parents in their own classes after school on the dates below:

18th June - Class Photographs will be rescheduled due to the torrential rain, these will now take place on 2nd July. Other events scheduled for that day will be reviewed and an update will follow. As always we thank you for your support.

16th June - It is with regret that we are writing to you following the Government's announcement on Monday of the extension to Lockdown rules. For Upton, this means we have had to change a few of the plans we had hoped to take place in Term 6.
As I’m sure you can appreciate the restrictions that will be remaining in place mean that the Family Picnic and Summer Fair will no longer be able to take place.
The Colour Run will be postponed with our hope that this can take place in September, more information will follow.
Sports Days will continue to take place. We are allowed spectators to gather in separate (multiple) groups of up to 30- the legal gathering limit. With this in mind, we must restrict you to one adult per child (no additional adults or children will be allowed) to watch this event. Spectators must adhere to current social distancing requirements and remain in the area that is provided for your group.
We will of course ensure the children continue to have an immense amount of fun this term!
These are the only events currently affected and we hope nothing further will be impacted. We are of course disappointed, but we must follow government guidance. We thank you as always for your support.

14th June - Year 5 will be doing paper-mache art week beginning 28th June we would like to ask parents to send in any old newsletters from home before this date.
11th June - Year 6 have lots of exciting things happen this term. Next week they will be watching an animal heart dissection as part of their topic this Term, following this, they will be watching the Puberty video in class which you can view here. Towards the end of Term 6 they will also watch the PG rated film Wonder an adaptation of the book they are reading in English, if you do not wish for your child to watch the film please contact your child’s class teacher.
28th May - On Friday 11th June (the first Friday back after half term) Year 5 will be having a WOW Day to kick off their new topic on the Ancient Maya. Children do not need to buy a costume for this WOW Day as we have provided all children with a plain white t-shirt which we would like them to design with a Maya pattern or design. Children will then wear this t-shirt on the WOW Day. Please see the Year 5 blog here for more information on options for how to design their t-shirt.

28th May – We are proud to involve all members of our Upton family in the future direction of the Viking Academy Trust. Each year we create a whole 'School Improvement Plan' (SIP) for each school. This is a plan that highlights the areas we want to improve upon and new ideas we would like to implement. You have a significant role in supporting us in ensuring we deliver first class educational provision to all of our children. We want your views on what has gone well this year and areas you feel that we can improve upon. These views will form the basis of our 'School Improvement Plan' for the coming year. Please complete this brief form - VAT School Improvement Plan and be part of the future of the Viking Academy Trust!
27th May - Thank you to all those of you who booked only one club for your child, this has allowed us to offer many more children the opportunity to take part in an after-school sports club.
Now this first phase of booking has passed we can open up multiple clubs for those that wish, so if you have already booked a club for your child, and they would like to try another please go on to the app to select the other clubs available that they wish to join. 27th May - Registration for children due to start secondary school in September 2022 will open on Tuesday 1st June. The PESE (procedure for entrance into secondary education) PDF here provides further information for parents. The information on the KCC website here will be updated when registration goes live on 1st June.

25th May – We are happy to announce that after-school sports clubs will restart in Term 6.
Spaces are limited and so on a first come first serve basis. Booking will go live via MCAS tomorrow (26th May) at 6:00 pm, you will see a 'Clubs' option in the menu, select this and then ‘Available’ to see the options for your child.
As I am sure you understand due to Covid restrictions, we have had to greatly limit the number of clubs we can run and so to give as many children as possible the opportunity to take part we ask parents to be considerate and only book one club per child. If the clubs are full there is an option to go on the waiting list.
Clubs will start the first week back and run until 16th July.

19th May - Year 3 will take part in a WOW day for their topic on Tuesday 25th May, ‘May the Force be With You’ next week. If you have any flat bottle tops (eg milk tops) or empty tin cans, please could you send them in with your child across the rest of the week.

17th May - A reminder that if you have a Parent Consultation booked this week it will take place via Teams. Please ensure you can still access your child's Microsoft Teams account before your appointment time. If you've forgotten login details these can be found under the 'Reports' tab in MCAS. Once you have logged in to Teams click the calendar and select the relevant appointment. You will then be held in the lobby, at your appointment time the Teacher will admit you to the meeting.

6th May - Just a reminder that tomorrow is NSPCC Number Day and to raise money children can come to school in Maths related non-school uniform in exchange for a £1 donation. This can be anything from a t-shirt with a number or a dotty dress!If your child's PE day coincides with NSPCC Number Day please ensure their non-school uniform and footwear is suitable for taking part in sports activities.
4th May - Year 6 will need cereal boxes for a class activity we would like to ask that they are bought in by Wednesday 12th May.

30th April - The optional home learning questions for Term 5 have now been set, your child's year group can be found here. Children who complete the home learning will receive a gold letter from Miss Watmough or Miss Papa-Adams in the post.
26th April - A reminder that 5R have swimming tomorrow. Children need to come to school in their school uniform and bring their swimming kit (costume/fitted shorts, goggles, hat and towel) in a bag.
23rd April - NSPCC Number Day is on 7th May, children can come to school in non-school uniform in exchange for £1 donation. For a little extra fun if they have something maths or number related to wear this would be great to see!
23rd April - There is still time to get those sponsorship forms in, remember the more we raise the more books we can get for school! We thank you for your support as always.
22nd April – We have been informed by Swattenden that they are unable to accommodate us this year. We are currently looking at options for in-school activities as an alternative and will update you further once we have more information.
Those that have paid towards Swattenden this year will receive a full refund for any monies paid. We will send more information on this shortly.
If your child was not planning on attending Swattenden they will still have the opportunity to take part in the in-school activities we hope to arrange.

28th March - PE for Year 6 (all Year 6 classes) will now be on Fridays in Terms 5 & 6. The children will still need to come to school wearing their PE kits and stay in them for the whole day on Fridays.

From Monday 19th April 2021, the school morning will return to pre-covid times. The gates will once again open at 8:40 am with registration will taking place at 8:55 am.
We have also revised the Inset Day due to take place on 7th June, this will now be a normal school day, with children expected to attend school as normal.

28th March - Thursday is the last day of Term and so there will be a change to the menu for school dinner on this day with be fish and chips being served.

19th March - Children will be making dioramas based on their current text in English - The Iron Man in class. We would like to ask that children bring in a shoebox-size box with a lid is most suitable before Monday 29th March which they can then use to make their diorama.
19th March - The Year 4 WOW day will take place on Friday 26th March. Children can come to school dressed as Romans or Greeks and will have a day of activities including creating greek mosaics, making Greek salad and a Roman archaeology hunt! 15th March - Just a reminder that tomorrow is individual school photographs. All children need is their wonderful smiles and full uniform. If it's normally your child's PE day they will still need to come in uniform (no PE kits required). They may have 'lockdown' hair but please remind them they are beautiful with or without their hair styled, these will certainly be pictures to look back on.

12th March - Dear Parents and Carers, On Wednesday 17th March, Year 3 will be baking biscuits as part of our English lesson. All allergies have been considered and steps will be in place to ensure that there is no risk of cross-contamination. The ingredients included: caster sugar, self-raising flour and butter. Gluten-free self-raising flour and dairy-free butter will be used for those children with allergies. If you have any questions, please get in touch with your child's class teacher.
11th March - Dear Parents, We have been liaising with the Schoolwear Centre and from today, you will have the option to have your uniform order delivered to the school free of charge. Orders will need to be placed over the phone by leaving a voice message or via Facebook messenger as the website will only offer the paid delivery service. 20th October - Due to the ongoing Covid restrictions we are reviewing our wrap around care provision for next term. I am pleased to announce that we are now able to offer this for all children from the beginning of Term 2. We need to ensure the children remain as safe as possible so will be keeping the children in ‘bubbles’. This does mean, however, that if you need your child to attend you will be required to book a place for the whole week. You will also need to pay, in advance, via school money (under ‘Trips’ section) for all sessions, regardless of whether your child attends.
We will be offering the following services:
Breakfast club will run from 7:45am-8:30am and will cost £10 for the week.
After school club will have two sessions. 3:15pm- 4:30pm, costing £20 for the week and 3:15pm- 6:00pm, costing £42.50 for the week.
Please complete the key survey form here by 9:00am on Friday 23rd October. We will notify you by Monday 2nd November if your child is not successful in gaining a place. If you do not hear from us, the provision will start from Tuesday 3rd November.

We will scavenge natural materials on the school field but your child will also need to bring:
• a container/base for their bug hotel, we recommend a 2L bottle or milk carton or a small shoe/cereal box.
• Additionally, any junk modelling items that can be used to add to their bug hotel. E.g. cardboard tube, bottle lids, pine cones, shells etc.
