English:

This week children have thoroughly enjoyed finishing the book Kensuke’s Kingdom. They engaged very well with the text and showed enthusiasm throughout reading. As one of our reading tasks this week the children re-enacted one of their favourite parts of the text by freeze framing; the rest of the class then had to guess the section of the story. The children practised their use of body language and facial expression. In addition to this they have been writing their own survival guides for people willing to travel to Kensuke’s island. By researching key survival tips and the Pacific Ocean, the children have created wonderful guides.

Next term, we will be reading our new text ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’. Both teachers and children are very excited to delve into this fantastic story.

Maths:

This week in maths, we have been focusing algebra, looking at missing pairs of values and then investigating.  We have really focused on working systematically to solve complex problems.

Next term, we will be moving onto measures and converting between imperial and metric, allowing the children to apply their learning to everyday life.

UBBC:

This week in Geography we have been exploring landforms. The children were split into groups and researched their own landform, from volcanoes to canyons. We have been discussing how each landform changes over time. The children then presented their findings to the class and created beautiful double page spreads.

We have reflected on our topic ‘The Circle of Life’ and completed our end of unit quiz. The children had some time for independent research, where they had the opportunity to further develop their understanding of this topic.
