Purple for Polio day
Upton went purple on November 2nd for our ‘Purple4Polio’ day. The children (and staff!) wore something purple in return for a small donation to the charity. The grand total raised was £430.21.
John Rowland from Thanet Rotary came in to talk to us about polio, and kindly donated 20 kilos of crocus bulbs, so that each child could plant some and take some home too. We’re looking forward to a sea of purple in front of the school next spring!
For over 30 years, Rotary and its members have been committed to fighting to eradicate polio across the world. The number of countries where polio is still found has dropped from 125 to just three, with over 2.5 billion children receiving vaccinations. Where 1000 children a day would be diagnosed, it is now only 10 per year. With eradication now closer than ever, Purple4Polio is part of the final push to get rid of polio for good.
