One Childhood - One Chance

Upton Girl Footballers Among the Best in Kent

Upton Juniors are celebrating a determined and enthusiastic performance against the best girls’ football teams in Kent.

Representing the Thanet area in the tournament for Year 5 and 6 teams at the Sporting Thamesmead centre in London, Upton faced top opposition from around the county.

Upton sports coach and PE lead Callum Noble said: “The girls played amazingly throughout showing real determination and resilience against tough opposition.

“They battled through the group stage but eventually got knocked out by the eventual winners in the semi-finals meaning Upton came third in Kent.

“This is an amazing achievement for the side and they deserve full praise for their efforts.”

Schools competing included Dulverton (Bexley), Fleetdown (Dartford), St Faiths (Dover), Holy Trinity (Gravesham), Coxheath (Gravesham), Southborough (Orpington) and Pembury.

Upton qualified for the prestigious tournament to fly the flag for Thanet after an impressive set of victories in the qualifying competition, the DW Cup, in October.

Head of School Darci Arthur said: “The standard of girls’ football at Upton – and around the country - is rising every year and our team performed so well, representing schools from around our district and competing against the elite in the county.

“Our whole school community is rightly very proud of their excellent achievements that highlight ambition and aspiration – they are our champions.”

Upton Junior School is part of the Viking Academy Trust with Ramsgate Arts Primary and Chilton Primary School, Ramsgate.
