6B - Should Zoe Trust Dooby?

6B are enthralled by our class text Floodland and today we asked and answered a very important question: Should Zoe trust Dooby? We came up with reasons for and against and debated this online - it was great! After this, the children wrote up the debate showing reasons for and against.
Should Zoe trust Dooby?
Throughout the short period of time that Zoe has known Dooby, he has shown that he is not a nice person and he can be rough sometimes. When Zoe met Dooby, she thought he was going to be a kind leader and care for others, but he is not that nice and he is violent, even with his friends Spat and Munchkin. Would you want a leader who is mean and violent?
I also think that Dooby should not be a leader because he took Zoë’s boat and will not tell her where it is. For this reason, I do not think that Zoe should trust Dooby. Someone like this would also would not make a good leader for the group.
Another reason why Dooby should not be leader. Dooby set munchkin up and hid in the roof and spied on Zoe. This is a bad thing to do especially to your friends. I think Dooby is trying to find out what Zoe is doing so he can stop her from being the leader. This is not trust worthy and Zoe should be careful around him.

Should Zoe trust Dooby?
In this essay I will display points to show whether Zoe should trust Dooby or not. I will display my points but not show whether I am for or against. Let's get onto the points.
Here is why Dooby is a rude and untrustworthy leader. Firstly, he is very violent leader and never is very two faced. He goes from very trustworthy too incredibly violent. He can be nice for a bit but get on his nerves and... it will end very badly. He could be using her because he doesn’t actually need her, he just needs her boat. Once he is out of the island, he doesn’t need her he just needed to be on a new island. Secondly, we hear in chapter seven that he is being very aggressive towards the cat. Throwing him on the floor by the collar and Zoe could he the screams and groans all night. Thirdly, he bullies everyone. If you step out of line, he gets his way by scaring them. That is his way of getting around.
But is he all bad? Firstly, he never hurt anybody that didn’t belong on the island. He only hurt the cat to protect the island. He never hurt Zoe or asked her to do anything for them. Secondly, he brought supplies to the island. Without him they would have starved and froze to death. He brought everything to the island and genuinely cared about them. Secondly, he wants to take Zoe with him instead of sneaking the boat and leaving when everyone's asleep. He cared that it was her boat and offered to come with her. That is pretty nice to be completely honest. Thirdly, he cares for the island. He makes an effort to keep things in shape. He really does care.

Should Zoe trust Dooby?
At the moment my class are reading a book called flood land. Recently we have found out that Dooby, the leader of the tribe, is planning on leaving the island and leaving everyone behind. In this piece of writing, I am going to debate on the two different sides, one why Zoe should trust Dooby and the other why she should not.
I think that Zoe should not trust Dooby. My first reason is that Dooby stole Zoe’s boat and who knows if he will do the same when there out to sea, he could push her of board and sail away without her leaving her stranded or worse, to die. Dooby has a history of violence, if you remember when Dooby first came to the island there was a thug fight to get on the island and, if I remember correctly, a man died on that boat and we still don’t know if Dooby was responsible for this.
On the other hand, Zoe could trust Dooby because he has stuck with the tribe for this long and without him there would have been no hope whatsoever for the people on the island. As well as that, we don’t know what Dooby’s plan is, he may be leaving the tribe behind to keep them safe, he might be going to find food or a new place to stay. Dooby isn't the definition of loyal, but he has been kind to the people on Eels island and has provided food and tort them everything they need to know about survival.

Should Zoe trust Dooby.
Throughout the book Foodland, we have learnt a lot about Dooby and one of the things we have learnt is how he acts towards people on eel's island. In this debate I am going to be telling you different reasons why Zoe should and shouldn't trust Dooby. So, let's get started.
Dooby has many sides to him and one on them is his dark side where he gets insanely mean and these days are most days, he takes control of people and is really rude very often. When he gets like this, he says manipulating things and he doesn't care about it, he loves to mess with people and the Zoe isn't happy about it.
However, he can be nice sometimes to because he could be stealing Zoë’s boat to find a new island for the islanders to live in. What does a good leader do? Well, he looks after them and saves people and that’s exactly what he did. I think Dooby is a good leader and he should deserve to be the good leader that he is.
Now ask this question to yourself, could you trust a person who is brash, violent, ruthless, and intimidated or do you want someone who is nice and thoughtful and kind your choice, but I think you deserve the best.

Should Zoe trust Dooby
In this essay we are debating, that in the book Floodland, our main character Zoe should trust Dooby. She must decide if she will let him aboard or leave him with his people and ride to the mainland with the crazy old man named William. I am extremely excited so let's begin!
In this paragraph we are supporting Dooby and that she should take him with her. Ever since she first met him, he has shown that he is brave strong and is always determined to do what he thinks is right. He is cunning since they talked about him being able to kill off all the dogs (another island of scavengers') also he is not afraid to kill his enemies as we saw in chapter seven when they torture someone, they think is a spy so if they get ambushed by someone in the boat journey that skill could come in use. And finally, he has survival skills. What I mean by this is that in a part of the book she is told that when first got onto the island he ordered everyone to gather supplies.
In this paragraph I am saying that I would NOT trust Dooby. Firstly, is that throughout the book he has changed his mood extremely quickly so if he was to become angry it could turn into a problem that could lead to a devastating problem for her and Dooby. Secondly, he has proven himself to be manipulative and cunning in a bad way, meaning he could have formed a plan like watching her and once he gets a hang of it pushing her of the boat and into the cold freezing ocean. Maybe, another reason could be that he is vicious and blood thirsty what I mean by this is that he could find a way to hurt her if she does not do what he said.

Should Zoe trust Dooby?
In the book Foodland, Dooby has shown Zoe and the readers at home his two personalities: loyal; and ignorant. In the debate ahead, I will show you how these two personalities can affect whether Zoe should or should not trust Dooby.
I believe that he is being very loyal and generous because at least he is taking her as well as him! Maybe he believes that they can help each other through these tough times. And unbelievably, they have many similarities so maybe you could ask yourself; would you trust Dooby if Dooby was like Zoe?
However, these kind deeds may be the complete opposite of what you may think because Zoe has seen the ignorant side of Dooby and it is truly vile! He is intending on betraying the whole island! The worst thing is that him betraying the island is not the worst thing he has done! Would you go on a boat with him?
To conclude this debate, I will give my preference to the decision ahead. I think Zoe should try and find her boat and go without any hesitation. If she has time, she should take William because she has already left Natasha at home, she can’t afford to make the same poor decision!

Should Zoe trust Dooby?
My first point is based on the fact that evidence clearly shown the Dooby cannot be trusted in any way as he intimidates people and manipulates them to get what he wants and it is clear the he is violent to even his closest friends the way he treats people is indescribable he is nasty and from my point of view he absolutely cannot be trusted as you know how violent he can be and you can never know what he could do to you from all of these reasons there is a lot of evidence that he is completely untrustworthy !!! Seeing what he has done to people in the past such as munchkin and spat I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near him I wouldn’t even want to know who he was I would be off that island quicker than I have ever left before and he has taken Zoe’s boat doesn’t that make you think that he cannot be trusted at all.
There is some evidence that Dooby could be trusted on of them being that he could help Zoe make her way back to Norwich he also could protect her from anybody who could hurt her as she has seen how he handles things on his island. In the past he has been able to make anyone and anything do what he wants and that could be useful to Zoe. But after everything you have seen him do to people do you think you would trust him. He could help Zoe with getting the boat to places and getting it out the water there is a lot he could help her with but there is also a lot of reasons he cannot be trusted. Also, he would be able to scare off anyone who is dangerous as he seen extremely good at intimidating people so for these reasons it is clear there are a lot of reasons on why he can be trusted and a lot of reason on why he cannot be trusted I honestly think he cannot be trusted for the reasons presented!
