23.6.25 Year 5 Weekly News
Term 6 Week 3
English
Last week, the children wrote a suspense narrative focusing on weaving action, dialogue and description throughout. They wrote some incredible stories, and it was a brilliant way for children to showcase their skills from the year. This week, the children will be writing a flashback, this links to our class text and the main character flashing back to a key event in her life. The focus on the flashback is using a range of clauses for effect.
Maths
Last week, the children were focusing on 3D shapes. They learnt how to describe and compare 3D shapes based on their properties, built shapes from nets and explored circles. This week, the children are starting the volume unit. Alongside this, we will continue to work hard on arithmetic as a year group.
Thematic
Last week, the children studied artwork to advertise the railways. They looked at advertisement posters from the past and compared them to modern day posters. The children learnt about bias and how it encourages people to visit Broadstairs. On Friday, the children visited Howletts as part of their conservation learning and it was such a fantastic day! This week, the children are going to be learning about environmental changes such as wind farming and planning their DT project; to build a wind turbine.
