One Childhood - One Chance

Year 6 Weekly News 5.9.25

This week in Year 6...

What a jam-packed and exciting start to the year it’s been in Year 6! We look forward to seeing you at the Year 6 Meet the Teacher meetings at 2.45pm on Monday.

English

In English, we started our text of the term, 'Floodland' and practised our inference skills with a range of questions. We then tackled our first piece of writing and created a letter from our main character, Zoe, using modal verbs and emotive language. Next week, we will craft a diary entry.

Maths

In Maths, we have started the year with a focus on place value, reading and writing numbers up to 7-digits. Next week, we will look at a range of addition and subtraction problems.

Thematic

As always, we started the term with a Personal Development focus. We looked at the importance of appropriate communication online and considered strategies to support emotional regulation. Next week, we will kick off our Thematic Curriculum topic, 'Darwin's Delights'.

Homework

- A new homework grid will be published on the blog next week.

- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.

- Children should be playing TTRS at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.

-Once your child has read a book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.

Welcome (renaissance-go.com)

- Mathletics homework will be set for the children to complete by Fridays.

-New for this year: Spelling grids. Next week, the children will receive their homework books which will detail our spelling homework for this academic year.
