Year 6 Weekly News 12.09.25

This week in Year 6...
English
This week, the children have really enjoyed reading our English text of the term, Floodland. They have worked to empathise with the characters, writing letters using modal verbs and emotive language.
Next we will work towards writing a setting description of the cathedral, first drawing our own visualisations and generating ambitious words and phrases.
Maths
This week we have focused on rounding numbers to a required degree of accuracy. The children have also explored a range of addition strategies in order to choose the most efficient method for a calculation.
Next week, we will explore efficient methods of subtraction before moving on to multiplication and division.
Thematic Curriculum
In thematic this week we created documentaries about famous explorers. We worked in small groups to gather the information, created a script and thought about how we could make our delivery exciting and engaging for the viewer.
Next week, we look closer at Darwin’s voyage on the H.M.S Beagle and his discoveries.
