Term 1: Make Some Noise
This term in Year 4 we are learning about Sound. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!
Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term.
English:
This week in English we continued to read Leon and the Place Between. We published our first piece of writing by using watercolour to paint a picture of the circus tent and used pen to write our descriptions in neat. We also began to write a play script for one of the scenes in the book where Leon gets chosen to go inside the box.
As Thursday was National Poetry Day, we celebrated by dedicating the morning to poetry. Our focus text was The Fruitytoot-Toot by Annie Fisher and the children drew what they thought it looked like based on the poem. They then drew their own version and wrote a poem about it. We had a fun morning.
Next week we will finish our play scripts and will begin to write our sequel to Leon and the Place Between.
Maths:
In maths this week we continued with adding and subtracting 4-digit numbers. We explored the concept through 1-step and 2-step word problems. We drew bar models to help us understand the problem.
Next week we will conclude our addition and subtraction unit with our post-unit quiz and will begin our next unit: multiplication and division.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week we explored the works of Heinrich Hertz and how his discoveries helped us to understand how soundwaves behave. His work was also integral to the invention of radios and Wi-Fi. We also looked at noise pollution including what it is, what causes it, the effects of it and how we can reduce it.
Next week we will have an afternoon of exploring sound and music, begin creating our own ear defenders and participate in lots of activities during our Wow Day.
