We have had a fabulous week in Year 4 this week. Take a look at what we have been up to…

Key Messages for next week…

  • Tuesday is swimming for 4B and 4G. Please ensure that full swimming kit is brought in on that day. If your child cannot take part, please contact their teacher or the office to explain why. Children MUST have a swim cap and earrings removed.
  • Children can come to school in their PE kit on swimming days.
  • Please ensure children are wearing correct school uniform and shoes, including a tie.
  • Please ensure children are bringing in their water bottles every day, preferably with a sports cap.

Weekly homework tasks:

Reading daily – please bring in your reading record signed by an adult.

TTRS - at least 3 times a week for 10 minutes.

Mathletics – Friday to Friday

Spelling – Please choose approximately 5 words from the Year 3/4 word list to complete ‘look, say, cover, write, check’. This should be completed in the orange Home Learning book and returned to school to be checked by the class teacher.

***Well done to everyone who has received a certificate so far for either Mathletics or TTRS***

Term 1: Make Some Noise

This term in Year 4 we are learning about Sound. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term.

Well done to everyone who has brought something in already this term.

English:

This week in English, we finished our play scripts and wrote a sequel for Leon and the Place Between. We also created our own sequel to the book by writing a narrative based on a new character who visits Abdul Kazam’s magic show.

Next week we will write an explanation text about sound.

Maths:

In maths this week we began our new unit on multiplication and division. We looked at patterns in the times tables and learnt different tricks to help us with the 9 times table.

Next week we will continue with multiplication and division by finding factors of numbers and multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week during our Thematic lessons, we took part in some exciting activities linked to sound and music. On Wednesday, we had a carousel led by our music leaders in the school. Miss Taylor led an instrument session where the children were exposed to a selection of instruments and took part in a call and response drum activity. Mr Smith led a session linked to how technology is used in music and Mr Mullins led a session linked to the guitar and how emotions can be expressed through how the guitar is played.

On Friday, the children took part in a selection of sound-related activities for their Wow Day. We invited in Elliot and Charlie from Palm Deaf Ltd, who led a session teaching the children about BSL. The children learnt the alphabet as well as different words and phrases.

We also had Dan from School of Noise join us for the day. He brought with him a selection of sound-related equipment for the children to use, including a theremin, a Chladni plate (a vibrating plate that produces patterns based on the frequency of the sound played), a beeper device for morse code, a ‘confuserphone’ and a drum kit made of vegetables. He finished the day with an assembly – the A-Z of sound.

Across the day, the children also created some art, with Mr Mason, linked to Kandinsky, made a cup telephone and participated in a Kahoot sound quiz. It was a fabulous day, and the children (and adults) learnt a lot.

***Thank you to all of our visitors and adults who helped to make the week a success and something memorable for the children.***
